I'm thinking of buying the all in one 21.5 inch Mac for 1700 but
I need someone to convince me why I should spend 1700 instead of 700 for a pc with same processor i5. are macs really worth it? I'm would just like to hear from Mac owners

that really depends on what you want to do with the iMac ,
i could never go back to windows , alone the thought of having to go back is sending shivers down my spine and make me sweat, but lucky i can live without windows thanks to OSX

i mean if you only play games on your computer and fill up your pc with anti malware software ,sure the windows desktop pc offers you much more choice and its really upgradable , i mean you play a game and find you need a better graphicscard , you can just pop in a online store and get the one of your choice ,

with the iMac you stuck with your original choice unless you sell the whole iMac again to buy one with a better graphics card(if possible), but then its a AIO system and in pc world you have the same downsides everything made to fit just behind the display so even in pc world you are limited to your original setup if you choose a AIO system

so its really a question of OSX or windows , positive the iMac lets you play with windows and relax with OSX

Imac 21.5 with an i5? I've never heard of that. Personally if I was you, I would look at the low end 27". It really is that much better than the 21.5" IMO.

I was like you a year ago. I couldn't figure out why people would spend so much on a computer that you could get for so less. I decided to shut my mouth and get a 24" iMac (at the time they only had 20" and 24" models). The first couple of days ill be honest, I hated it. Coming from using s pc for 13 years I couldn't figure out anything. I realized I was overthinking everything. Everything is so simple and easy to use on a mac.

After the first two months of going through hell with it, I started to become amazed. The machine NEVER slowed down, never crashed, never did anything to piss me off like my 7 windows computers that I have do.

I really can't explain it, but just looking at my computer everyday makes me happy lol. I like coming home to using a sleek and stylish computer rather than a clunky, gross pc. I actually game on my iMac everyday and it works great on counter strike: source with all of the settings maxes out.

Basically to sum it up, I'm a mac and I will never go back. Two years ago I said macs suck, there overpriced, there for idiots. I was wrong. Just try it out.

I'm sorry, but this has a trollish quality to it. Why don't you google? There are countless switching-stories around...

I recently bought an iMac 27" model. I know it is super-expensive, and like you, I was wondering if it was worth it.

I can proudly say I am happy with this machine. No wires, perfect screen and wireless keyboard bundled with the beautiful magic mouse. :D

It is totally up to you to buy an iMac, but make sure to save up some cash. Because I had around 5k+ saved, so iMac was my choice.

Hmm, on the chance this was a serious question and not a troll, I'll give my answer. :)

I recently replaced my six-year-old laptop. I wanted a desktop with a large screen. I settled on the 27" iMac for $1699. To get an equivalent Dell would have cost MORE. Granted I could have gotten a tower with the same RAM, CPU, HDD and GPU specs for only $700 to $800 - but that was without a monitor. To get an equivalent monitor from Dell, the U2711, costs $1099. So combine those and the Dell is more expensive. I wasn't interested in, say, a 23" U2311H with 1920x1080 for $320. (Which would make an equivalent Dell cheaper than a 21.5" iMac.)

So if you want a thousand dollar monitor, the 27" iMac is the cheaper way to go. If you want a cheaper monitor, a Dell is the way to go.

Agreed. Both of my parents have 27" iMac's and they are freaking beautiful. The extra screen real estate is really worth it.

Alternatively, you could build a fairly powerful hackinstosh for a fraction of the cost of a Mac. I'd recommend doing that if your into gaming.

No offense to anyone who has purchased an I5 21.5" Imac, but I would think doing so would be crazy. Why pay $1700 for it, when you could have the quad core I5 for only $200 more, and get a 27" screen. The price difference between a 21.5" 1080p screen and a 27" 1440p screen is about $600-$800.

That being said, if you have access to them you know the answer to which you will prefer. If you're going to game, like someone else said build a pc. I don't know about making it into a Hackintosh as opposed to just running Windows 7 64-bit, but I suppose if you have Mac software that would be a good option.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

As others have said, the iMac is not any more expensive than a Windows PC with the same hardware once you include the monitor and all the other extras that come standard on the iMac, such as a webcam, speakers, bluetooth, wifi, card reader, keyboard, mouse, and IR receiver. Plus you get a superior OS that comes with more useful software out of the box.

If you need total strangers in a very biased Apple forum to convince you, this is one of the biggest mistakes you've made.

Use common sense. Look at the obscene amount of money Apple charges for a computer with the same commodity parts inside as a PC. Same brand of hard drive, ram memory, you name it. So what are you paying for? Styling, to be cool, to make Apple wealthier than they already are.

I've paid tens of thousands of dollars for Mac Computers, Laptops, & Phones. But only because I can easily afford it, & I'm an enthusiast that buys just as much on the PC side. Windows 7 is just as terrific as OS X, they're just different. Both are very easy to use. It's not like years ago when Mac was simpler & easier. They both "just work".

So if money is a consideration, Think very carefully.

I bought a 21.5" iMac - not because I'm crazy but because I don't really have the space for a 27" screen on my desk (and I don't really like screens that size anyway): I like to run with two screens as one of them is often connected to a remote machine so I have a 21.5" iMac connected to an external 21.5" monitor and it works brilliantly for my requirements.

There really is no point in trying to engage you in further conversation.

No one needs to convince you about a decision that YOU should be making yourself. If you're cheap, then you will spend the 700 on the beige box.

Good use of English by the way.

How is Apple charging obscene amounts for the iMac? The iMac is not any more expensive than a comparable PC, when you add up all the extras it comes with (most importantly, the monitor). Half the cost of the 27" iMac, for example, is for the $1000 monitor it includes. I explained this in my earlier post.

I suppose crazy would be my thinking there was no good reason to buy an I5 21.5" Imac, and I stand corrected.

What I should have said is that I believe is that I believe the 27" I5 Imac is a much better value for the money than an I5 21.5" Imac because of the price difference between a 21.5" and 27" monitor, assuming it fits into your budget and workspace.
