are TrueType fonts in Catalina only installable with FontBoot

Hello forum

I do have many fonts and I hoped I could them only copy to a font folder, but was unable to
find a folder called "font" or "fonts" with fonts stored in it


Are TrueType fonts in Catalina only installable with the help of FontBoot?

Yes... Font Book... there may be some third party font management systems that don't use Font Book, but not aware of any "drag and drop to a folder" method. If there is, I am sure someone will come along and correct me/provide necessary steps.

The Fonts folder is located in the (hidden) user library or in the shared user library.

You can get to the hidden user library by pressing shift + command + L and then navigate to the Fonts folder. If the folder does not exist, you can create it. The shared user library (for all user accounts) can be located under Macintosh HD → Library → Fonts.

Any supported font files (TTF among others) will automatically be added to the font system and shown in Font Book when added to either of these Fonts folders.

Sorry but I am unable to put your advices into practice..... Should pressing "shift + command + L" change the viewing-behaviour of Finder?

As admin I 'open .' and then I was able to navigate to /Library/Fonts/ but only toppanbunky... otf was listed in that font folder.... even in regular mac apps like Pages, about 60 fonts are selectable (Catalina out of the box).


What I am doing wrong? Thank for any additional feedback!
