I imagine the secondary market will fill up with almost any band idea you can come up with

Give it a month and a 3rd party will have them available. MyCell has exact (well pretty damn close) replicas. Just a matter of time before they offer it in a wider range of colors. That should hold you over till (if) Apple releases them.

I'm gonna guess that we're getting new sports band colors every year the same way we used to get new iPod and iMac colors every year. They're never going to sell a watch without a band so that's how they'll get the upgraders.
