I use 5 Ghz because this is literally the only way I can use the internet on my 2012 MBA (provider is comcast). If I use 2.4 Ghz my download speeds drop to like 1.0 mb/s while on 5 Ghz it is around 20. I'm hesitant to upgrade to Yosemite because people have said they couldn't get their wifi to work at all on 5 Ghz band and had to use 2.4. Clearly the latter won't be an option for me so I'm not sure what to do.

we have 1 macbook pro, and 2 macbook airs all running yosemite and haven't had any problems on either 2.4 or 5ghz modes. comcast is the service provider as well. currently typing the post while connected to 5ghz comcast connection.

I had issues on high frequencies (154-161). Low frequencies (36-44) worked without trouble.

Hi CJ,

i have a late 2013 15" rMBP and an early 2014 11" MBA and get different results on Yosemite. The MBA has no issues with the 5 GHZ band. The rMBP has inconsistent results with the 5 GHz band. Both computers have no issues a the 2.4 GHz band.

Finally decided to risk and just upgraded. Wifi seems to be just fine, speeds are the same. No stuttery animations...yet
