I started from scratch with the GM restored with the phone in DFU last week after. I have been running the developers betas. So far i don't have any issues pretty smooth. only a bit when i pull down to search.

For those of you who do fresh installs, what about all your info? Contacts, photos, all that stuff. And apps. Do you just redownload them one by one?

Contacts, Calendar, Safari bookmarks, keychain and that sort of stuff is syncing to iCloud. Photos is iCloud Photo library. and apps i just download them again. the good thing is all the cache data they have been building up is now gone.

Most important stuff today is synced with iCloud. You have to download every app one by one yes. But some apps also sync with their own service or with iCloud. If you use iCloud Photo Library you get all your pictures as well. You loose text messages if that is important to you.

The bigger painpoints there are reconfiguring all notifications for different apps, organizing the apps again (if you have more than a few), and reconfiguring settings iOS and many apps.

I did manage to configure all the iOS settings i wanted. For the notifications part i will set them as they start using the app i find that easier than doing them all in one take.

Cached data can be cleared by doing a erase all data and restore from backup (that's why it's called cached).

Personally I've always done a restore from backup going all the way back to when I had my iPhone 3gs and other than the normal bugs which (usually) eventually get fixed in iOS by the x.2 or x.3 release, I haven't had any real issues that couldn't be fixed by resetting settings or doing a restore from backup.

Restoring from new is pretty much out of the question until Apple develops some way to selectively backup and restore save data from apps so I don't lose 5+ years worth of game saves. Pre-iOS 8.3 there was a third party way, but that was shut down. Plus I have over 200 apps installed and installing them one by one would take a long time.

The other day I was reminded that messages and healthkit data will be lost as that only backs up in a regular backup.

Yep I know i can only cleared that way or delete the app and reinstall I do that sometimes with Messenger, Tweetbot they can build up a lot of cache.

Developers should start using save game data to iCloud. I had some games earlier on that i really wanted to keep, but i had some issues with the phone i said screw it and restored the phone.

Is there a way to keep all your messages when you do a fresh install? Thats really the only thing holding me back. I have messages that go way back. To two or three years ago.

nope... thats why i just do the delta upgrades.

in place upgrade. I'll wait for my 6S Plus to arrive to install all my apps fresh.

LOL I used to do the same but deleted them long ago. You'll never go back to them man...just delete. Even check your storage, you'll see Messages takes up like 3GB going back that long.

Users should have the option to include or not include Messages with iCloud backups (e.g., with/without media). Wouldn't be that difficult and would be a very useful option, IMO.
