Are you guys happy with the how much the screen tilts back?

Anyone using these babies on sofas will know that sometimes apple dissapoints when it comes to screen opening angles.

I wonder now that the air has adopted the mbp hinge (or close), do we get at least better opening angles than the previous gen?

A friend of mine with the previous gen air had opened it up and removed a little plastic "stopper" which inhibited the full opening of those airs. Either by chance or by design this didn't harm the hinge and anyway and allowed the air to be used in much more positions.

I wonder if something along these lines is unfortunately in order for the airs since I am getting many reports of the screen not tilting back enough.:apple:

Disappointing, I wonder if that trick with taking the stopper out still works...

Well that's cause you don't put your mac on your thighs with knees bent and your upper back supported by a couple of pillows say, and you use some other type of position that puts more stress on your back or shoulders.

Tilt angle.

I don't know what the fuss is all about... as far as I am concerned it tilts more than far enough.

HUH? How does that make any sense?

From what I can see the Air is very light on the bottom area that holds the electronics and keyboard, yet the aluminum on the screen lid is heavy enough to cause the bottom of the computer to lift up and tilt if you push the screen back too far. The Macbook Pros push back pretty far and that's because the bottom is much more heavier to withstand the weight of the screen tilting back.

Judging by this picture, i would think she isn't as comfortable as she looks. Why would she point her toe out like that. Seems uncomfortable.

It's basically the same as the MBPs. I think it opens a little bit farther than the previous MBA. If you look at the hinge design, you will see why the angle is limited. It's a consequence of a thin design with the pivot point in the middle, not at the top.

Yeah well that was an illustration pretty much I am not saying you gotta flex your foot too...:rolleyes:

The thing is does the air open up as much?

I htink it tilts back just far enough. The plasticbook didn't go far enough, the Envy didn't go far enough, but this is pretty comfortable for using in bed or on the couch or whatever.

It tilts back far enough. I played around with them in the store for about 15 minutes. It tilts as much as my 2008 macbook pro and that is just fine for me.

It tilts back way farther then my 08 MBP. I'm actually really surprised how much it tilts back. More than I expected.

I once carelessly threw my MBP on the bed, opened... The hinge cracked and ever since my MBP opens up almost 180°... The display has become a lot more lose though, so it's not all good ;) But I can live with it. I think the new Airs open as far as the MBPs are supposed to, probably 135° or something close to that...

The hinge is built into the back of the MBA (and MB/MBP), as opposed to on top, resulting in a thinner laptop (height not added to by hinge on top of base), but with a screen that can't tilt back 180* because the bottom of the screen can't go into the base.
