Hi,

My hubby said he would buy me an iPad for Mother's Day. I had originally asked for one for my birthday in August.

Reading about sketchy wifi reception worries me...people seem to be having weak signal strength and I'm wondering if it is very widespread or a fluke(batch of bad units)

My husband said he wouldn't be surprised if they weakened the wifi antenna a bit to increase battery life...not sure if I am saying that correctly.

I would use wifi in hotels where the wifi can be weak anyway and an issue on the iPad would make it worse.

Also, how is your 3G speed...are you able to use it to stream video. I would like to use the 3G on the road and would like to stream from netflix, abc, cbs etc. Are you able to watch video without a lot of glitches..stops and starts?

I will either have him buy it now or wait till August and see if Apple identifies an issue with the wifi and fixes it...I won't travel till October so I don't necessarily need it yet, but it would be fun to have it:)

What do you think? Are you happy with wifi reception and 3G streaming? Do you think there is an issue that needs to be resolved? Thanks!

My Wifi is perfect. No problems.

3G speeds through tethering are excellent also.

Works perfect here.

My iPad did use to drop wifi every so often... But my brother's net book did too. So I upgraded the firmware and ever since then I haven't had any issues. Full wifi strength.

3G is also very fast... Much faster then the iPhone.

My Wi-fi and 3G work great! :D I like the ability to turn off the 3G to conserve and use Wi-fi where there is a strong reception. The only drawback on 3G is the poor video quality but faster download, especially on YouTube as oppose to the Wi-fi with much greater quality video, but much slower download times....sometimes to the point of freezing the iPad altogether and requiring a hard reset to wake the iPad back up.

WiFi reception isn't stellar, but 3G reception is great.

So I don't use WiFi.

For Netflix, the app will change the quality of the video based on your network speed; so if you have only cellular internet, it will stream at a lower bit rate.

Wifi works well, even with my campus's notoriously in and out reception. 3G has beed fantastic.

I get great reception and fast connections with both Wifi and 3G. I haven't read about people complaining about the 3G, but from what I've seen of the wifi issues, I bet a good chunk of those are really router issues.

Wifi - what you'd expect - laptop-like

3g - better than you'd expect - noticeably better than a phone's
