I'm currently using 2019 MacBook Pro 16" too, and wondering how many 2019 MBP 16" users are buying the new M1 Pro/Max MBP 16".
(I'd really like to get one, but am a little hesitant because 2019 MBP's used price dropped a lot after Apple released M1 Macs and the replacement cost is so high...)
 
Technically replacing my MBA M1 but I sold my 16" back then because I was interested in getting some money before buying these new models. But yes from my 16" to a 14"
 
I'm definitely trading it my 2019 16" (Base i9). While I do think it is a beautiful machine aesthetically, it's just a flawed machine for me in terms of performance with the existence of the M1 chips. It's hot and loud for even minor tasks and using with external monitors. So I'm trading it into Apple while the value is still there. Like you said, the value of these machines in used market is falling so hard. Apple trade-in is basically giving me the same amount as I would get from selling it myself.

As far as the machine I want to replace it with, I think have my heart set on the 2021 Base 14" MBP. It's nearly a perfect laptop. I'm convinced the 14" screen size is the sweet spot for me. There are upgrades across the board but I do have concerns of the weaker battery life (going to wait and see more real life tests of the 14" battery life and even with weaker battery, it's still better than the Intel Mac). I am considering the M1 13" MBP and MBA as well, so basically any M1 machine.

But yes, I am replacing 2019 MBP 16" while I still can.
 
Replaced my 2019 16” with a 14”. So far it has been so worth it. This machine is fast, silent, has ports, and overall for me is a better machine.
 
I had the MacBook Pro 16" 2019. I hated it. Battery was terrible. Crashed often. Fan would kick on randomly and the machine would shut down. Plus, more ports. I can finally toss the stupid dongles in my bag.

My new MacBook Pro 14" arrived Tuesday and it's 10x better. Been editing 4k images in PhotoShop and the fan has yet to kick on once. Plus, battery is at 58% and last charge was Tuesday at 12pm. It's 8am Wednesday morning now.

I have the 2019, got the 2021. I'm a light user, just work and some photo/video editing for fun. My old 16 ran uncomfortably hot when editing video. I also didn't love the dongle situation. Ultimately, I took the plunge because my 2019 obviously wasn't going to get anymore valuable and I wanted to go ahead and move up to M1
 
Happy with my 2019 and need Windows VM, so for now I will wait and see what happens with Windows for ARM and with M2. There is always something better around the corner. ?

I am replacing my 2019 16" MBP 2.4 8-Core i9/64 GB with a 2021 MBP M1 Max with 64 GB. I do a ton of editing in Photoshop/Lightroom, etc and I use two Thunderbolt 27" monitors (Yes, I still like them...). Lately, I have been getting the dreaded kernal_task CPU slowdown. Nothing I have done will fix it. I even moved the power cable to the right-side port. The SMC reset stuff works, but only for a few hours or so. My fans are maxed and I also have a laptop cooling pad. I am hoping the new M1 Max model will alleviate the dreaded kernal_task slowdown. I will know this Tuesday!
 
I replaced my top of the line 16" with the 5600 Gfx card. I may not have if I didn't get such a good deal on it when I bought it but I was able to sell it at a profit and spend and come out ahead so it was a no brainer for me.
 
I have a 16" 64GB, 4TB, 5600M and will be keeping it. The 5600M I think makes a huge difference. I bought it a year ago and will keep it another two years - maybe 3.

On the fence here. Might handle it down to the wife and sell her MacBook Pro 15” 2016 while that still works and we can get some money for it.

But maybe an iMac 27” M1 Max Deluxe is want I really want? ?
 
I'm trading my 2019 16" i9 2.4ghz 64gb 5500M+8 2tb on a 2021 16" Pro 16gb 1tb. Downgrading as I've moved all of my 3D and coding work to my MSI laptop. Buying a NAS (4 bay Synology) to offload some storage. I'm second guessing my latest RAM and storage spec, so may cancel and change my order. Better figure that out soon.

You are good example that overspecs does not pay off for future selling. Thanks for confirmation.
 
Fortunately, as an IT project manager and 3D/Game dev hobbyist, I'm completely satisfied with my mid-range MBP 16 (i9/16RAM/1Tb/5500m 4GB).

I like a new MBP 16 on M1MAX but, I'm not going to invest in the Apple "Intel>M1 transition" plan. Most of the software is not there yet, FaceID is not implemented, ports are there...but old standards, Pro-motion 120hz screen is not usable on 100% yet, etc.

Sure, M1 (especially PRO/MAX) shows significant improvements compared to Intel. The same picture I saw back when Intel replaced PowerPC chips inside new Apple products. But when I looked at M1 without Intel comparison, I clearly see that Apple has much work to do, and my best bet will be something like "M3 MAX" as an Intel replacement.

In my case - more than enough.

You need more GPU ram size only if your game (or 3D scene) has objects with 4k textures applied. Even than 4Gb could be enough to handle. Depends on quantity of such objects in the frame at the same time.

I think I was a little ahead of the curve. As soon as the M1 dropped, is old my 2018 MacBook Pro and just worked on my iMac until a replacement came along. It was a long year but I’m glad I waited and I got a pretty good return on investment without a lot of depreciation. My 2018 now is worth way less.
 
Did it. Sold the 16" 2019 i9 / 8 core MBP as soon as the new ones were announced.

In the meantime, I was working on my 13" MBA M1 - even that was faster than the 2019 i9 MBP.

So, really, it's a no-brainer.

Having the 16" now I believe I would probably be better off with a 15" MBA, since the M1 is really blazing fast, and fast enough for development work I do. I only got the 16 because I need a big screen.

The biggest surprise is how BIG this thing is.

This is the biggest MBP I've had since the 17" unibody MBP back in the day.

I don't understand why it is so big - compared to the i9, it should be smaller - less thermal heat, smaller SOC - so why is it bigger - like a LOT bigger?

But having this very large computer also provides a feeling of safety and security. It's not all bad. I just don't understand why it's so much bigger than the 2019... which was already bigger than the 2018 models, but only marginally so. This one - I don't know I think optics play a part as well since on paper it's not that much larger.

But if you want a comically large MBP - get it!

Other than that, only used it for 1 day, it's been flawless, amazing keyboard, fantastic screen, everything you'd expect.

Jumbo size.
 
Bought 16" MBP M1 Max 64GB to replace the 16" 2019 Intel i9 with 16GB Ram and AMD 5500m. Transition was very smooth except for the external USB C enclosure which is getting random disconnects and freezing.
 
Mine's kind of an odd story. Hadn't had a MBP in years, bought a 14" base model from Best Buy, but returned it and bought a base 2019 16" (i7/16GB/512GB) for a good deal on eBay - less than half the cost of the base 14", pristine condition with only 5 battery cycles.

For the savings, I thought I'd keep it...BUT...I definitely enjoyed the 14" more (especially the size) so now I have an upgraded 14" on order, with my 16" as trade in. The credit was higher than what I paid cash for the 16" so I'm happy. Can't wait to be back on Apple silicon. :)

I'm in the same boat here. I bought a 14 inch (base model) and kept my 16 inch (got it in a similar deal like you did).. Returned the 14 thinking "the 16 inch is good enough and I'll stick with my M1 mini" well that was a mistake because I have that "M1 remorse" so I'm trying to talk myself out of just trading in my 16 inch 2019 and getting a 14 inch. What was your justification?
