As long as you have a desktop computer at home that can do your gaming and store you bizillion GB of music, there is no sacrifice of speed/hdd space.

For the memory, 2gb is pleanty for anything, you can have more, but that wold be for doing tasks that you should do on your home desktop.

all in all, if you have a nice desktop at home, and actually have a use for a laptop like traveling, or college the MBA is awesome for you.

i bought it as a 2nd computer to my macbook pro.

the pro is now gathering dust.

sure, i'd love to have my 250 gig hard drive in the air, oh well...the price of progress i guess.

Turthfully, no I am not.

The biggest thing for me is the battery life and recharge time. Basically, even with plugging the thing in, I can’t get through an entire day of work/school without the battery going empty on me. It takes sooooo long to charge that it has made it impractical for my purposes.

The disk space on my SSD is also very aggravating. 64Gb vs 6x10^10 bytes is a pretty good size difference. Not what was promised.

I’m also a little disappointed with the performance of Parallels. Just trying to read a powerpoint yesterday was quite the challenge – it was taking forever to load the slides.

Just a differing opinion. I’m probably going to return it and get a new 15” MBP. We’ll see.

It is simply brilliant. So light and thin.

I use it for browsing web, keynote presentations etc - I have a mac pro at home for the hardcore stuff.

I am very impressed - in fact more impressed than I thought.

Everyone was saying how slow it would be, but I haven't noticed. It is just as quick as my mac pro for everyday surfing etc.

The trackpad is also a pleasant surprise - it is really easy to use and very responsive.

So I am a happy customer.

I have a Windows rig for gaming, everything else I now do on my MBA.

Well for five years, I had a mouse for my Apple laptop, just couldn't get used to a trackpad...

UNTIL....

NOW.

This is the FIRST trackpad that is actually faster and more intuitive than a mouse.

Buy it for the screen, keyboard, and trackpad alone. Everything else is pure gravy if you use it as a supplemental machine for moving around.

Very pleased with mine.

I traveled with it last week for the first time. Footprint was great on the plane. I've been getting over four hours of battery life on average.

I don't push it really hard though. I do run some Windows programs both through Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion with no trouble at all. I rented a couple of iTunes movies for my trip, and they played back fine and I even used the built-in speaker without getting annoyed.

Being as light as it is, I can recline on a bed and hold it in one hand and navigate with the other on the trackpad. Oddly, that was pretty comfortable.

I wouldn't get one if it was my only computer, but I have several others for the things I don't expect the Air to handle.

Like some of the other posters, I don't like my MBA, I LOVE it! It is an amazing machine for what it is. I plan to use the MBA to travel with and also for the usual work related activities, such as Office, Internet, Email and iTunes. Okay, so iTunes isn't exactly *work* related. But it makes my day go faster!

I have come from a MacBook Pro and I haven't had any issues with the speed thus far. That said, I haven't encoded any videos or run any virtual machines (which I used to do frequently). That might be a different story. Not a huge problem for me anyway, as I have a MacMini and a super powerful Dell laptop for work.

I love it. Despite what I found when demoing the two models in the store side by side, and despite the recent reports and tests, I do find the SSD to be really impressive. I don't find the 1.8 SSD to be a sacrifice of anything. It works beautifully.

I just picked one up an hour ago, base model, gonna try and see how it stacks up as a replacement for my 15" mbp 2.16 C2D. I'm running a 24" dell off my mbp right now, and just do pages/itunes/webkit.


If it gets by with that powering the external, I'm sure it will be fine on its on for its size/weight. We will see though, I'm giving it a desktop challenge for my needs.

Let's just say love is in the MacBook Air everywhere I looked around

I have it as a compliment to my Mac Pro as I do my heavy lifting on it and i use the MBA for business presentations, show and tell kind of stuff.

Actually, I was pretty disappointed when the Air was announced, but I needed something light, and needed OS X. So, I bought it, and it's been a joy to carry around NYC. The trackpad is great and the screen is beautiful. Plenty powerful for me.

The experience hasn't been smooth for me...the first one I had took 10 hrs to charge, and while the second one seems to be better, the screen was built "too close" to the base, so whenever you open the screen the bottom part of the bezel rubs against the base and so the aluminum just below the "macbook air" logo is starting to erode already.

Interestingly, the first unit I had (HDD) had the hard drive click every 30 seconds, whereas this new unit I have heard it click maybe once. Interesting...

Hopefully #3 will be good.

Macbook Air x Lenovo T60P

Guys, I went to my local coffee shop with my macbook air yesterday and I sat down in the patio and I could see everything fairly easy. Today I went with my "monster" T60P, and to my amusement the quality of the screen on the macbook was very, but very impressive when compared to the Lenovo laptop. Just amazing, without the weight and the size of it. This is my first Macbook and I just love it.

CONS:
Speed is definitely an issue - I would not get this device as a primary device.

Battery recharging time just plain sucks.

PROS:
BUT.... I think the Air is an incredible computer - and when you have one, you will be amazed at the build quality (barring the occasional hiccup with some production units).

The quality is just amazing....

Even in bright sunlight...

I too don't like my MBA -- I absolutely love it.

Today I used it outside on a bright sunny day. Even with the screen slightly dimmed due to the powersaving features the screen was as bright as the page of a magazine. NO glare whatsoever.

That it's a good outdoors machine is huge to me -- I'd love to work outside most days and now I finally have a machine that allows for it.

MBA = A+.

I love it and it is my only computer. Enough space, speed, etc for my needs. The sharp edge is my only aggravation.
