When changing file extension I get this message:

Are you sure you want to change the extension from “.XYZ” to “.XYZ1”?

Unfortunately I have to do this rather frequently and the message is annoying. Any idea how to switch this dialog off completely?

Hi UweAll,

I use the Finder for very few tasks on Macs, so I don't know how to turn off these messages. I understand the ostensible reason for asking, since the extensions are typically tied to the default app employed to open the files, but the Finder should offer a "Never ask again?" query to switch off this question if the user is cognizant of this.

On the other hand, I do rename a lot of extensions, but I use the Terminal window and shell commands to do so. In particular, the "mv" command with commandline completion makes renaming a file much faster in the Terminal window than attempting to rename it using the Finder. A simple shell script can also rename the extensions of hundreds of files automatically and very quickly.

... just another way to avoid the slowness of using the GUI to perform renaming tasks, as well as other system tasks.

Regards,
Solouki
