Areca ARC-1880X x8 issue

Hello Everyone,

I found this forum trying to search for similar issues I'm experienced. So far I have found nothing, so I hope someone here can help me out.

I have a dual core Intel Xeon Mac Pro, the model identifier shows Mac Pro 1.1

The only upgrades so far is 3GB memory and a Radeon HD 5770. I just purchased an Areca ARC1880X card and installed it on slot 4. I don't have any other cards installed other than the Radeon Video card and Areca card, so slots 2 and 3 are vacant. When the expansion slot utility popped on screen, I noticed that the card was only using x4 lanes, so i choose the appropriate option which allocted x8 lanes to slot 4 (Areca card) and x16 to slot 1 (Video Card) and rebooted the system. Now here's the issue, it still detects/uses only x4 lanes, and does not actually change it to x8 lanes, even after I selected x8 lanes in the utility. So basically I'm stuck using a x8 1880X card with only x4 lanes, unless I'm missing a step here?

I have a the same problem with a 2006 Mac Pro but my slot 4 only does 1x with the Areca 1880i instead of x8. I have an ATI Radeon X1900 XT video card in slot 1 and no other cards.

If I plug the Areca into slot 2 with the video card the video card runs at x8 instead of x16 and the Areca runs at x8.

However, I have another Mac Pro (same model) with no video card that is getting x8 in slot 2.

Hmm... Sounds like it didn't save the setting change when you rebooted the system (presume you selected the "Save and Restart" button). Just in case you didn't however, shut down the system, pull the card, restart, shut down, replace the card, and restart again (trying to make lane configuration utility pop up again), and select the correct button (presume you did it right the first time, but just in case ).

Given the system's age however, the system's battery is suspect IMO (not retaining the changes you're trying to make). BTW, battery type = CR2032 which is easy to find (Walmart even carries them).

MacPro_Battery_DIY.pdf (it's also in your User's Guide on pg. 50; but it's easy to find between Slots 1 and 2, so you don't really need a reference/How-To)​
