I've got a CD 2.16 MBP, OSX 10.4.8, and it came stock with 1 gig of ram. I just updated it with one more stick of RAM, and everything was fine. It was then dropped, and it won't close, but everything else worked fine. In the past two weeks, everything started crashing. My computer is slow as hell, even as I type this, the letters are showing up 2 seconds after I hit the keys.

Photoshop won't open anymore, everytime it does, it crashes. Firefox only works sometimes, on some websites. Whenever I go to gmail, it crashes. Same with Safari.

I thought it might be bad RAM, so I downloaded Rember, and then IT crashed!

Now, even when I put my computer to sleep, the Fan keeps going, and my battery runs down. Even when the fan is not running, if its not plugged in, and asleep, the battery runs down. I have to shut it down everytime I'm finished.

Any Ideas? I saved some of the log file reports if that helps. Should I schedual an appt with a genious or what? How about just throwing it out the window?

Pull the RAM out and see what happens.

YOu probably are somewhat, um, what's that word.... because you said it won't close, which means visible "abuse", so they wont' cover anything for it.

I was having WAY funky issues last month with a bad RAM card - no way did I think it coud have been that. I even called Cruicial after Apple said it HAD to be the RAM. Crucial agreed that it was possible - so i went into testing RAM mode (so not fun - the only obvious sign of an issue - Tiger woudln't install, and the 90% DONE mark. Joy).

Anyway, pull it and see what happens!

i third the RAM suggestion. bad ram can cause crashes. even if the ram stick is good, it's entirely possible the drop jarred it (or something else) loose or otherwise damaged it. best of luck getting it fixed.

Chances are, when you drop something, its most fragile components are going to be the ones that break. In any notebook computer, the first place I look, after cosmetic damage, is the hard drive.

It was then dropped, and it won't close, but everything else worked fine. In the past two weeks, everything started crashing.

If it was running when it dropped, I say you check the harddrive. If not, the RAM is your next best bet. If not the RAM, check your temperature when it starts crashing. Perhaps a fan or heatsink was jarred out of place a little.

well, after checking pretty much everything, and over an hour on the phone with Apple, here I am with a clean install of OSX. I'm not too happy of a camper....
