ARGH! Can't get into DFU mode?

Hey guys,

OK, in the past I've got into DFU mode MANY a time, but I'm having real troubles at the moment:

With my 3GS (currently running 3.1b2) I want to downgrade to 3.0 as am finding many errors which I want to avoid, so I try to get into DFU mode.

BUT, when i hold down home and power at the same time, the phone just turns on and doesn't let me enter DFU mode! I've tried holding both at the same time, holding the home button first and THEN holding the power button and any way I try the phone just turns back on and doesn't let me enter DFU mode.

Has anyone got any advice that could help? Why can I not get into DFU mode?

Are you holding Home and Lock for 10sec exactly while the device is plugged into your machine? Then releasing the lock button and holding the Home button until prompted in iTunes that a phone needs recovery?

yup, exactly 10 seconds whilst phone is off and plugged into machine with itunes open, still happens...

There you go, that's your problem. Turn your phone on and try again while it's powered on and connected to your machine. :)
