So, on another forum, I told people I use a mac. And a bunch of clueless morons dissed it in a very ignorant fashion.

Here are some of the highlights:

http://nerdynick.wordpress.com/2006/11/05/...-why-macs-suck/

Basically the 2nd post is dead on. Macs are such pieces of **** when it comes to expandability and upgradeability. You shell out 2000 bucks, and then you really have few options at all with them. I feel sorry for the computer lab I helped create. The only thing they can essentially do is upgrade the RAM. In terms of having multiple media sources and all of that ****...it's a lie.

Macs are pieces of crap that have been bumped up due to the iPod craze. They're more adapted to life with PCs now than they were 10 years ago admittedly, but they are still gimmicky pieces of crap for people that want things done wayyy too easily on the computer front.

"There is simpler, and then there is overly simple to the point that it becomes so blatantly generic and useless for those that want to do more. Macs are restrictive pieces of crap bought by mostly people who don't even like computers. If you like pretty colors for your desktop and want to pay through the roof for things you can get cheaper, buy a Mac or a Macbook and all that junk. People love Macs because a lot of people are anti-Microsoft, anti-corporation, anti-monopoly and all that junk. So they get behind the "underdog." But I'll take a good PC over a Mac any day. The only thing the Macs have had going for them is the whole iPod culture that's developed and how they've integrated that into their computers to try and fashion some "hip, cool" computer for the masses. If you're really a "tech geek" you will find hundreds of computers that take massive ***** on Macs. Or, you simply have the resources and knowledge to build your own computer.

Fact remains: I've worked, owned, and installed them. They suck."

"If you really have the coding down well, you can access things that most general technical support doesn't cover. But for the most part, they do feel very restrictive. We used to have so many problems with the Macs at our lab and on a PC it'd be as simple as accessig the registry and pulling out some things, but on a Mac it's a whole other thing."

"Whenever I see the stupid ass commercial with the old PC guy and the Mac guy I want to vomit a little bit. All Apple tries to do with their ****** Mac line is try to make them seem "cool" and "hip," almost like an accessory line like the iPod.

The iPod is the ONLY thing I've come to like from Apple. And even they are massively overrated because you can find other MP3 players for great prices that are actually even more user friendly (no iTunes to deal with). It's just that they've cornered the MP3 player market, much like how PCs cornered the home computer market, and so everything runs compatible to the iPod.

The whole Apple Mac "we're media friendly and cool" thing is a fraud. They'd have you think that they invented digital media on computers, but they didn't. They just went with one aspect of what every PC already had. So my laptop isn't as thin as a paper, doesn't come in 5000 different colors, and doesn't look "sleek." Like I could give a rat's ass. I bought it for half of what a Mac costs and I can do so much more software wise.

If all you do is surf the web, listen to music/play DVDs, and run some minor software stuff (website designing for example), and you shelled out over 1500 grand for a Mac then you just ripped yourself off.

If you really want a high end PC and you are a "tech geek" you find the parts yourself, build your own thing, save thousands of dollars, and upgrade easily and constantly.

And honestly, if my computer is outdated and I shelled out 2,000 bucks on the latest Mac the last thing I want to do is shell out another 2 grand on another Mac 3-4 years later. Nobody just buys another 2,000 dollar computer every few years. Not the "average" consumer that doesn't even know what the hell a CPU is. Learn the market.

Also Matt, you're right on. One of the main reasons you see a ton of users of Macs is because they hand out their computers really really cheapily to schools and educational programs. Nobody is going to resist a free computer.

It comes down to this. You want a computer with a nice processor, 2.5 ghz speed, 120+ gb of hard drive space, and over a gig of RAM. Why the **** would you pay the asstastic load that you would on a Mac with those kinds of specs when you could get a PC desktop or laptop for a fraction of the cost of the Mac and with identical or better performance? Because the Mac looks cooooooooooool? For ****'s sake. Only retards choose the Mac. **** the Mac. **** Apple up its overrated ass. I'd like to take a massive **** on Steve Jobs.

And again about this "simple" debate. Obviously v-ault, you have no clue what I mean by that. I don't mean that simple isn't good. I meant that there are things you want to do on a Mac that you can't because the whole thing is designed for people who don't know how to use computers. The average person wants to know how to open programs, type on Word, and surf the web. More advanced users want to do more and the Mac's "simple" design becomes a headache when it comes to those things. Especially when it comes to troubleshooting system issues and maintaining the thing."

"Hit the nail on the head. Like I said...just way too restrictive. If you have any kind of advanced computer experience then a Mac almost feels like an insult to you. They'e supposedly "simple" and all of that and user friendly, but they're TOO much like that. And then when something goes wrong with them, it's hell and high waters to try and fix the problem because the stupid Mac doesn't let you do anything to it."

"Dude, face it - Macs are for people who aren't interested in having computers... but are more interested in a pretty looking desk ornamant...

I once took an iMAC and grabbed it by the handle and threw it out a window... most satisfying thing EVAR..."

"How long did it even take the Mac to get together with Intel? And how much MORE money are you paying for that processor on a desk ornament like the Mac than you would be on a normal PC? I mean jeez...the PC has had the intel processor and everything else from the get go. And by the time the PC gets on a new chipset from Intel, the Mac will still be stuck on its own intel that doesn't do half of the things.

The only time I've ever seen a Mac used anywhere is when the people using them are computer illiterate. Like, my old, annoying bosses who wanted me to write 50 page instruction manuals on how to open a CD program on the Mac used those things. They really suck."

"My point remains: Apple took years to adapt to a chipset that the PC had been on for years and years and years. On top of that, it's the Mac flavor of the Intel.... what good is a great processor when half the user base doesn't know an Intel from a keyboard? The whole "we have intel" thing is such a gimmick by Mac. They cater to computer illiterate users (not saying you are one, but in general, the Mac base is very computer illiterate), yet use the Intel chip as advertisement. I bet you MOST Mac users don't even know what the Intel does for their computer.

And that is why I hate Mac. If you're really into computers you wuoldn't get one because you wouldn't need to be babystepped through every little thing."

Your post and your direction is just as silly as their reasons for hating OSX.
Very well said. I gave up defending OSX long ago. No one can ever "win" one of those debates. It's funny that many people who used to deride me for using as Mac have actually made the switch recently.

people should just use what they like and shut their pie hole....i'm perdominately a pc guy but i picked up a g3 ibook to mess around with osx...it's not bad just different...apple needs to change there maketing...those pc vs mac commercials are really pathetic...if they can make some commercials that actually talk about why they are better then maybe they can go to the next level.

LOL. No one can rip anything on the Internet. It's like someone types "grab your throat and squeeze", and you do it. :) Honestly, try developing your sense of pity for those so prejudiced against something that they miss out on all the things life could be offering them. Also, it may be entirely true that Windows is simply awesome for them and exaggerating the Macs flaws is their expression of that preference, but not a honest expression of the Mac's worthiness as a platform. Entirely possible.

I had an argument with someone on this board recently where I realized they were being shamelessly ignorant (OMG-level) on the topic and that no amount of logic and/or perspective was going to resolve the fact that they simply wanted to believe something that wasn't factual (however many times you demonstrate the error from differing perspectives).

That said, if you don't believe this is true, I'm not going to try to convince you of it. Some things are just prima facie, and concerted efforts to prove its veracity says more about the proponent than the opponent. It's like arguing the sky is blue for 3 hours to a chorus of simply "No, it isn't". It's the very definition of madness.

Have you ever gotten into an argument with someone over which car is better - a Ford or Chevy (BMW or Mercadies, or whatever)? Somewhere in there will be an argument based on personal bias. And you can't do a thing about it.

I told someone I like simple to use computers and was promptly called "simple minded".

These folks are destined to be the bitter IT folks that get mad at the rest of us because we have work to do with our computers and we would rather not work on them.

The fact remains, I can build a computer (with legal XP and Office) capable of playing any game just as good as the Macbook can, for $250.

and, it would be the mythical mini-tower every apple fan talks of...

Oh dear, yet again... Some new kid in town comes stomping in like a bull on heat with their Anti-MS guns a-blazing and think they're going to win our hearts. Here, have a dose of scorn instead; then tell me, who's the idiot: the one who disses Apple or the one who disses another for dissing Apple?

Because we all know how many people upgrade their PCs.
Yeah, ironically when I stopped believing in "component upgradeability" (ie. exchanging my motherboard, CPU, case) I just went and bought a Dell. I'd previously had a custom-built computer that I kept upgrading part by part, until I ran into a number of "hard stops", like "this motherboard only supports CPUs up to "this" speed... and I'd already maxed it out with the initial purchase. Ironically, the G4 I had prior to my iMac purchase has a sizeable number of speed upgrades I can get... the only problem is they all cost about as much as a much faster Mac on eBay (both relatively cheap). It's all pure ignorance after a while to suggest there are cut-and-dry answers for everyone. Sure, a computer for $400 is real nice, and maybe your only option, but if my experience is any guide, you get exactly what you pay for (which doesn't necessarily mean that its bad).

Mm. I'm generally impressed with the saavy crowd here. With some notable exceptions (often people who equate unnecessary self-flagellation with being balanced), it often takes a lot to get folks riled up.

seems like big waste of time to even take take part in that thread.

but ive oftens seen comments like this
There is simpler, and then there is overly simple to the point that it becomes so blatantly generic and useless for those that want to do more
what is this "more" so many refer to? if its games you obviously just say games but what exactly are they talking about?

i switched over in 05 with tiger and have no idea what this youtube video is about. Can anyone tell me?

I agree with many of the prior posters: you cannot have a legitimate discussion with those who will not participate in one. There are so many ignorant people out there that I keep waiting for them to get themselves killed off by their own stupidity so that the rest of us can simply live in peace.

I don't think this thread is really bringing anything new to the table, and since the first post is merely a cut and paste job, a link to another forum and an invite to go over there and raise merry hell, I think its 15 minutes of fame elapsed some time ago.

Thread closed.
