In a van down by the river
I haven't used Arq Backup before with my Sinology NAS and It is asking for the UNC path, and I can't seem to figure out the right UNC path.

I put the folder where the Arq Backup will reside into Terminal and get the following...

/Volumes/M2\ MBA\ Arq\ Backup

It really is /Volumes / M2 MBA \ Arq Backup

If I try putting the aforementioned in with SMB or Afp //: followed by the rest, Arq can't find it. I must be missing something fairly obvious and dumb on my part.

I suggest using a name without spaces, and using a safe character like '-'. This might be simpler to work with, because nothing needs to be escaped or encoded. Example:
/Volumes/M2-MBA-Arq-Backup

Thanks for the reply. I changed the folder name to Arq and tried again and this is what popped up.

/Volumes/Arq/backup

I just did a search for keywords: arq unc path

This was one of the top results:

It explains a procedure you can use on a Mac to learn what its UNC pathname is, and make a script to mount it. The short version: mount the NAS (or other server) manually, then use 'mount' in a Terminal window to show mount points. Build a mounter script from the mount name (prototype script provided).

It says this is for Arq 5, and that Arq 6 will automatically mount the NAS (or other server).

If you follow the first steps of this procedure, you should be able to see what the UNC output from 'mount' is.

I just tried the mount command and the computer NAS doesn't show, even though it is mounted in Finder. My Plex server shows, though.

edited to add: turned off VPN and it showed. Tried again with a clean Terminal window and it isn't showing any more.

edited to add: //Apple_User@DS220._smb._tcp.local/Arq on /Volumes/Arq (smbfs, nodev, nosuid,

The output from mount isn't just the UNC name. Compare with the output for the other mounted devices.

I think the UNC name ends after this part: ._tcp.local/Arq

After that part is the word "on", which precedes the local path of the mount-point:
/Volumes/Arq

After that comes a space, then parenthesized mount-flags:
(smbfs, nodev, nosuid, ...

It looks like Arq has a support forum on Reddit, so you might want to ask there, and link to this thread if needed.

Have you read https://www.arqbackup.com/blog/nas-backup/. It is a little old and refers to AFP rather than SMB, but you will get the idea.

Email Arq Support if you can't get it working.

It is strictly a user to user help forum. Nevertheless, a good place to ask.
