Hi,

After I updated to macOS 11.2 in Macbook Pro (Retina, Late 2013), I decided to use an old Monitor I already had to use as my main display because I wanted a larger screen. I have never connected an external monitor to my Mac. This was my first attempt. The Monitor is ViewSonic VA1928wm LCD monitor 19inches. (Works fine with my age-old desktop). Also purchased an HDMI to VGA converter from Amazon.
Connected the setup to Macbook and what happens is basically nothing. The MacBook display keeps blinking but nothing comes on the monitor. There isn't any System Preferences > Display > Arrangement Tab either. Can anybody help to make this monitor usable or am I totally out of luck?

Thanks in advance!

The arrangement tab will only be visible once the system think the second display is working. If the MacBook screen keeps flashing it means it’s trying to initialise the display and failing over and over. Until that stops no arrangement tab

Check the cables are well connected...

OK. Can that also mean that the display may not be supported by Macbook pro at all?

Perhaps although I don’t know why that would be. Perhaps the HDMI to VGA adaptor is not supported or faulty? Can you use a digital connection to the monitor in some way?
