After 34 days of waiting and Apple messing me about my 17" MBP C2D finally arrives! However, it doesn't work!

During the initial setup stages once booting the MBP for the first time, it asks for which keyboard layout I wish to use. Upon selecting any of the languages, the computer screen goes black and the kernal panic screen comes up telling me to turn off my computer.

It's no surprise to me though...

In total, over 3 years I have spent £12,500 on Apple Computers and so far I have never received a fully functional computer first time without having to send it for repair.

First it was a 1.25GHz Al PowerBook G4 which I had to send back 3 times before I finally got a functional computer.

Then it was a PowerMac G5 which went to sleep every 5 minutes and sounded like it was going to take off! It still has the problem, not as persistent but I use it everyday so I can't send it back again!

Then it was an iMac G5 which I have had to send back 4 times. Finally Apple have replaced the piece of garbage with a C2D machine so that makes me a bit happier. But now they are having a joke!

Over a month I have waited for the MBP to arrive and it's packed away ready to be thrown back at Apple.

One very very very unhappy customer who can't live without OSX, but has to put up with Apple!

Hmm.. sorry you've had such bad luck with them. I've had litterally hundreds and hundreds of Macs pass through my hands over the years and I've had a few lemons, but it's a low percentage.

Ugh!, that must be really frustrating. I think you should demand a replacement or get a refund and re-order.

Very frustrating indeed. I am expecting a phone call from Apple Management tomorrow which will hopefully resolve the case. I expect some serious compensation as well as a new computer (within the next 3 days!!).

My housemate bought one at the same time as me, his arrived today as well and has exactly the same fault. I suspect that Apple have dropped their quality control down to meet the demand for the MBP's.

I will keep this thread updated with my progress...

That really stinks. The only hardware failure I've had is with a Pro Keyboard. Never had any DOA machines.

Looks like you've just had a bunch of bad luck with Apple. Either that, or they really hate you for some reason. Either way, I hope it gets resolved to your liking. ;)

Niver had an issue with DOA hardware either wither from apple or anyone esle. I need to ask this. Why do people feel the need to post here when they have an issue that clearly needs to be take to apple not forum users? Noy directed at you owaters just in general.

People need to voice their frustrations somewhere, simple human nature. I guess the OP in this case feels at home in Macrumors....kinda like family

With that bad of luck, I would want a place to vent as well! What better place than a forum full of Mac users who are potentially sympathetic to what's going on?

My initial reason for this topic was to find out if anyone else had this problem with the setup, however, admittedly my frustration escalated

Just as an update...I have just removed the RAM modules and swapped them around. This didn't provide a cure. Apparently kernel panics are usually RAM related.

then why do you keep giving you money to apple?? is it because there is actually no other interesting choice? :D

I really love reading these kinds of posts because it seems that some small percentage of people get a lot of the lemon machines, thus ridding other people from the bad experiences. Thumbs up for you! My heart is really with you! :)

Why do people feel the need to post without spell checking?

Not that I dont believe you, but i mean what are the chances of that? Maybe some bug in the UK keyboard layout preference? Bad batch of RAM? kernel panics on all 3. wow. What is the week build on those MBPs? are they all from the same week?

My first Mac ever and i have not yet gotten a *knock on wood* kernel panic.

Oh no! I'm getting a brand new C2D 15" shipped to me today because my other one had random shutdowns... I hope this hasn't infected the 15" models as well.

We tend not to delete the software/hardware rants like they do in the Apple Support Forum, however we do send some of them to Wasteland.

My housemate has received his replacement yesterday, same problem....

That's now 4 faulty computers!

My second replacement should arrive today......

Can this really be coincidence? Unlikely, very very unlikely. Has no one else had this fault with their C2D MacBook Pro's?
