I cannot afford a copy of Photoshop Elements ( £100 )
What would be a good affordable alternative ?

Pixelmator Pro is a popular Photoshop alternative for the Mac, and it's $50.

Krita is free and open-source and works on multiple platforms.

GIMP is also open-source and costs no money; the price is just your sanity. 🤪
Thank you, I'm going to try Krita.

I'll mention Affinity Photo for completeness here - but it is a bit more expensive than PixelMator Pro if you buy it on its own (still cheaper than Adobe, though) so it's probably not for you.

However, for anybody else reading who thinks they might need a drawing app and/or a desktop publisher as well, the Affinity "Universal License" bundle for Photo, Designer and Publisher is "only" about $160.

The developer has included the NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance key with a value of true in the app’s Info.plist file.
https://developer.apple.com/documen...sing_a_specific_appearance_for_your_macos_app

If you change the key to false, you will see a minimal difference hinting of the Dark Mode (the title of the windows will be dark).

From Terminal:
- to change the key to false

Code:
defaults write /Applications/FireAlpaca.app/Contents/Info.plist NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool NO

- to sign the app with an ad-hoc signature
Code:
codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/FireAlpaca.app
