Artic Pro application Xeon 3680 Mac pro

Hi I about to upgrade my MP 4.1 2.66 with the W3680. I'll be using the Artic pro but confused about the amount i should put on it.
On their site it says a small line on the top of the processor, others use credit card or tooth pick to spread evenly to the entire surface.
Which one is the right way? I'm afraid to mess it up

When i apply thermal compound, I try to use very little. I tend to agree with "a small line on top of the processor". More doesn't make it more effective.

No problem at all.

Just remember, the purpose of thermal compound is to fill in crevices and/or gaps between the chip and the heatsink. The better the contact between the heatsink and the chip, the more efficient the cooling will be.

I use a small pea sized drop in the center. The die is in the center of the package and paste running over the edge of the package is a bad idea.

Here is a picture of how much I used with my w3680 and mac pro 5,1.

Application was a bit of a mess: however I used a straight edge (card stock paper in my case) to evenly distribute it over the entire face of the cpu, including the very corners of the square face, almost like a film, perhaps 0.3 mm in thickness.

My cpu runs at 94 degrees fahrenheit, idle.

Ok, I've spent lots of time online and as I mentioned before, there are tons of methods that people do it. For this kind of processor Artic recommends a line as Studio K mentioned. Maybe I've been a little paranoid about it, but I believe this is one of the most important step. Do a nice and clean job, that why I posted here, just to make sure if I'm doing the right application. Line it is
