I was working on upgrading some of my sub-256kbps files that iTunes was able to match and I came across a couple of artists that Apple currently does not offer for sale in the iTunes store that came up as "Matched".

Has anyone else noticed this?? I attached a screen grab of an AC/DC album that has this status. Search the store for Back in Black, all you will find is a bunch of cover bands.

Yup same here. Although what's weird is my "You Shook Me All Night Long" was uploaded?!?

And I did a test. I deleted "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" even though my rip was good quality. I then redownloaded the Matched version. Sure enough....it's the real song. Weird!

Yeah anything not matched would still be uploaded. That's what the $25 covers. Because your iTunes music purchases can be accessed even without iTunes match.

No....these are Matched songs.

When I delete my version and redownload....it's downloading the 256 kbps Matched AAC file.

I'm wondering if AC/DC was available in the iTunes store at one time or if it is a sign of things to come.

My next test is to find a torrent of an album that hasn't been released yet and see what Match does with it before the official release date. Of course, I will delete the album and purchase the legit copy after the experiment!

Don't think so....they aren't anywhere.....iTunes or Amazon. And most of my other AC/DC was uploaded.

Funny, that was the same for me on my AC/DC Back in Black album. It was matched and I deleted it and redownloaded the whole thing as 256Kbs. And I was thinking about how AC/DC's never been available before online. Very odd.

Could it be that iTunes Match matches music across users as well?

I noticed the same thing too. I'm curious if iTunes Match is really matching all the songs to its database.

For example, I have a song (not in iTunes at all, not even in english), at 128k and iCloud Status said "Matched" after doing to whole itunes match process. Now I deleted that 128k song, the little cloud icon shows up and I can download a 256k version.

Now does iTunes really match it or does it took the 128K song I've uploaded and up-convert it to 256k. If that's the case, it's really misleading and I should have kept the 128K version in the first place because it take less space.

Your uploaded songs are marked as uploaded and download at the same bit rate as they are uploaded as. The only time Match will convert your upload is if it is above 320k (it will down-convert to 256k)

Yes, I understand the whole process and the iCloud Status that they advertise about. I'm simply curious of the actual process because I have many asian music in my library (many even have titles of different language), albums that's not on iTunes store or from places that iTunes store is not even available. And its iCloud status said "Matched", which made me very curious where iTunes Match get those songs from.

Is it possible that it searched their database for music that other people had uploaded (with higher quality) by match the sound spectrum, then match your library to their "shared" database? If that is what's behind the curtains, then that sounds like a huge pirating party... just speculating...:p

Your "asian music" might be available in asian countries' iTunes store. That's not strange at all. But what's strange is the matching of AC/DC songs, because they're not available ANYWHERE.

ITunes Match didn't match all of the AC/DC songs in my library. It only matched the album Back in Black and the song Highway to Hell. All the other songs on this album and their other albums were not matched.

I have an ACDC greatest hits album that was uploaded, no weird matches so far.

EDIT: Actually I take that back, Highway to Hell was matched.
