iPod artist wont load in artist window?

so i imported a cd and the artist name will not show up in the browser window but when i play the song, the artist name is clearly there. any idea whats causing this? im on itunes 8

That's weird. I tried to duplicate your settings, but couldn't get the "Album by Artist" column to show. Also, I'm guessing you modified iTunes to hide the Genre column at the top, right? My first guess was going to be Artist vs Album Artist, but I don't think that's it.

yes i did modify the genre thing by the boolean command.

thing is, it works on my laptop running itunes. im confused as to whats causing the issue on this computer

ok the issue was i had "group compilations" checked in preferences. when i uncheck it, it solved my isse
