With white spot screen issues with both the iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad Air 3 that are distracting - "Once you see it you can't un-see it" - coupled with a possible collapse in resale value back to Apple.com once the warranty has expired it seems to me the iPad 8 128GB shields one from both "white spot" anxiety (will it appear today?) and storage space exhaustion anxiety (that choosing the 32GB model might bring on) while offering longer Apple iOS support over an iPad 7 128GB (A10 CPU vs. A12 CPU). I excluded the iPad Pro 9.7" due to its smaller screen size and the more modern Pro models for their much higher cost. Am I missing something?

I think it's a good pick if you need one now.

Mind, I remember the 128GB iPad 7th gen going for $329 during Black Friday/Cyber Monday last year. Granted, there's pretty high demand for iPads right now though due to homeschooling so we may not see the same deep discounts this year.

Definitely a good option, but I’d go with Walmart over Amazon due to their questionable policies.

That's a good choice, and I also would go with Walmart. I had rather deal "in person" if I have to return something, whether for an exchange or refund.

The people of Walmart win? Times are changing for sure.
What policies are questionable?

End of the day it’s a good device that iPad regardless of seller however I’d buy straight from Apple.

There's nothing wrong with the iPad 8th Gen/128 GB. But I have the 2019 Air and highly recommend it. I have no white spots and haven't spent one minute thinking about that issue. What you're getting compared to the new iPad is a better screen (True Tone, laminated, wide color), .3" bigger screen yet slightly thinner and lighter, Bluetooth 5, and a much better front camera (7 MP vs 1.2).

But if you're really anxious over the white spot thing, there's nothing I can say to help. Like I said, the new iPad is a great choice too.

Apparently the development of white spots is bad enough even Apple doesn't want it back after the warranty has expired. Accordingly one should consider of adding in Applecare as a reoccurring annual cost in their purchase decision.

I’ve found these deals right before and after Christmas too. After the new year as well. They overstock on them then put them on sale. Best to wait IMO. :)

I made appointment with Genius Bar last week for white spot. They replaced out of warranty. I showed to him, he looked for 2 seconds and said yup. He said, we don’t even run diagnostics on this condition anymore. Let me enter this in and we’ll replace it. Few minutes later, another guy came out of back with replacement in unmarked box.

I’ve heard others didn’t have same luck. But Apple Store in San Antonio has always been good to me.
