Folks,

I have two ASD connected to my MBP 14 and love them. Two issues:
1) it kind of pisses me off that Apple doesn't offer an option to buy the ASD w/o camera and speakers. Having two sets of both is redundant and useless - also sucks that MacOS can't utilize all the speakers (but that's a different issue)
2) My wife is eyeing my ASDs and probably would love it if I gave her one of them (and a Mini) to replace her 2015 iMac

Question - what do people think about me replacing one of my ASD w/ an LG Ultrafine 5K? Seems like used ones on ebay are fairly reasonable (certainly cheaper than another ASD). Or am I going to be disappointed after being spoiled by ASD? I'd rather pay more money now vs. being disappointed but I don't want to throw money away either. (No need to post comments that I already threw money away because ASD is overpriced, silly, etc - I understand those arguments)

Thanks in advance,
Tim

Can’t speak for quality, but aesthetically I’d rather have two identical displays.
Having two different displays will inevitably lead you to drawing comparisons, and noticing any differences.
But that’s my OCD coming out!

What exactly are you attempting to gain by replacing one of your ASD's with an LG? A display that has no camera or built-in audio?

What were you expecting to get with a dual ASD setup?

Sorry, thought I made that clear. I love the two ASD set-up. I'm thinking of giving one of them to my wife and replacing it for me.

I get that - I have similar OCD issues. Probably just buy my wife one and keep what I've got. Likely worth the money.

It would be a hard call for me. I have mix-matched monitors (1x27"LG5k and 1x32"Dell4k) and it bothers me but I can't bring myself to spend the $1-2k just to match resolution or how they look. If everything matched, I wouldn't want to give it up. But...the LG5k is only marginally different from the ASD on paper. I'd wager it's fine unless you are doing color work or something like that.

I belive apple still sells them new online. Buying a used monitor is scary to me lol.

I returned my LG for an ASD and you couldn't pay me to go back to another one.

I don't understand what this means. Is there a software issue?

What I meant was it's unfortunate that MacOS can't somehow make use of the speakers in both monitors at the same time. If I am watching a video on one ASD, the speakers on the other are doing nothing. Not a big deal, just saying . . .

Oh, I see! With the high price of the ASD I guess that's not a scenario they envisioned happening a lot.
