I want the setting, of these two, which uses the LEAST amount of battery.

?

I thought it was "ask next time or when I share" because of where it is in the row on the screen, being before "while using app" but I dont know.

Anybody?

p.s. I have iPhone 11, are the 5G iPhones faster data wise whether there is a 5G signal or not? In most places there is no 5G or if there is it isnt the mega stuff, right?

The impact is minimal, also "ask next time" means that if the app tries to access position you will receive a pop-up to allow or deny.

They’re both essentially the same. Apps would access the location once and contrary to what the name suggests most apps don’t continuously keep using your location while they’re being used unless it needs to like Maps.

If its an app that requires location then you are just wasting your time telling it to ask you every time. You are going to click yes anyway, might as well select "only when using the app".

It should be mentioned that iOS location services collects and distributes location data. Two apps asking for the same data receive the same data, its not polled twice. To minimize battery impact location data is collected based on variables too like APN's or if a location change is detected (moving off your wifi network, your bluetooth connecting to your car, etc) an app with active location requirements is brought to the foreground. Further more, the more energy your app is using in the background the lower it drops on the priority list, this is to incentivize developers to focus on making their app more energy efficient. Finally if you have an app that is allowed to poll precise location data from the background (always allow) you'll actually get a notification from iOS telling you the app is doing this and a little map showing where it collected GPS data....this is generally an app like a 3rd party home security app that "needs" to know your location at all times for security messages and alarm activation/deactivation.

This is a very old screenshot but just imagine the new UI.

That has a negative effect on battery life but even then its not tooooo bad. Everything else is negligible.
