So this is my desk:

I will be getting my 27" iMac in a couple of weeks, and I have noticed that my desk is going to be kind of cramped with it. In the picture, I currently have the two logitech speakers, a 500gb external drive, and a hd enclosure that no longer powers on (which wont be there for long). I was looking at the desks Ikea offers, but the length of them doesnt work for the space in my room. So I am wondering if anyone has any ideas?

This is what I was thinking...the glass (34 inches in length) on the desk has four screws under it that connect it to the base. I am thinking about taking the glass off and taking it to a local glass shop here, and getting another piece made that would be 12" longer (6" in each side). I can only make the brackets, which the glass screws into, 3 inches longer on each side due to the length of the bar underneath that holds the glass in place with the screws. Do you guys, and gals, think that with about 3-4 inches of glass on each side being held by nothing, be a problem with weight? I want to add my 13" UMB on the side with a Mstand as well. Thoughts? I was thinking about adding an extra 6-8 inches of glass on one side only, but I think the glass would have to be a little thicker than it is now to support the weight, or I would have to add some type of bracket to one side of the desk so I can support it.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Ikea has a table top and leg offering and I believe you can get a 4' long table top. It's not glass but it may help.

I'm loving my 50 dollar Ikea desk. Not sure of the name, but there's a picture thread of it.

Why don't you either make a custom desk or just buy a new one, I mean with such high end hardware you would expect a nice desk or not? To me that desk looks very unstable.

Those Office depot/staples desks are uncomfortable and look terrible.
I would get a new desk from Ikea only. Trust me i speak from experience and so do other members here.

Once you go Ikea you never go back.
