OK, so I use handbrake with the apple tv preset to rip my DVDs for my Apple TV but can not quite figure out one thing. When I rip a full screen version of a DVD using the Apple TV preset on Handbrake the quality and everything is great but it has the black bars on the left and right of the screen and is essentially playing in 4:3 aspect ratio. When I do the same with a Widescreen DVD it is fine.
I do understand the difference between widescreen and full screen, but I am just confused because when I play the full screen DVD in my DVD player it plays on my widescreen tv just fine without the black bars on the sides. I guess it is taking the content and filling the screen with it. I do of course have to play with the TV's display settings to get the picture to look right after the picture is stretched, but at least it does not have the black bars on the sides.
Is there anything that I can do to keep handbrake from applying the black bars to the sides of the picture when it rips it in?
