See enclosed pic. Is this normal? Why are they there? There are 3 ASRDataVolume ones, I numbered them.

And there is the snapshot (green) on my volume holding the OS. Why is it there?

Any help appreciated.

These volumes are for Apple software restores. Did you recently do a recovery?

I had a similar question which landed me here.
If it was safe to delete these ASRDataVolume_12345 which are empty and seem to be left over from a ChronoSync bootable backup of Monterey.

I see you had posted on apple support community as well where there is a detailed answer to this.

In summary: Safe to delete. These ASRDataVolume volumes are failed clones created by the command-line tool asr (Apple Software Restore). It is currently the only known tool that can clone both macOS and your data. Backup apps call this tool. In this case it was via ChronoSync which is what I had used as well.

Good heads up. I had forgotten about this thread. I indeed also confirm what you say here. The folk at ChronoSync told me, and I had a chat with an apple support person (who was clueless, as is often so with the more complex questions) but once up one level it was confirmed. They are either left there by a failed ChronoSync attempt or an upgrade of OS software.



I deleted all mine and my Mac works still as should.
