Asset Tag utility for iMac

We are gettign ready to deploy a dual boot lab environement. In the past, with Dell and Gateway, we have programmed the Universities Asset Tag's into the Bios, so we can pull it out using VBScript to rename the computer. Is there any way on the Mac to burn an asset tag into the Bios, or any other way so that Windows can pull it out using VBScript? We basically want to make sure that the machine is ALWAYS named the same when it is re-imaged on the Windows Side...

Macs don't have a BIOS, they use EFI.

I get that they don't have a BIOS, but the question remains the same. Is there any way that I can grab a static piece of information from the MAC that can be burned in and read from the Windows/Mac side?

It's a tricky one. I don't know of any way to manually go in and play with any settings there may be in EFI, but then I'm not exactly "up" on EFI anyway, I just know it's there

How about the MAC address of one of the network cards? That'll be the same all the time, and should be able to be read from OS X and Windows with a script of some variation.

That might work. I could build a document with a MAC --> Asset Tag mapping and grep it to return the asset tag for a specific MAC Address. I wish there was a way to do it without a search lookup....
