Does anyone here do astrophotography? If so, I would be interested in seeing some of your work. Especially deep sky photography. I'm looking at getting a decent telescope to get some awesome galaxy and nebula photos!

These are two images of the Milkyway I took about two weeks ago, about an hour out of Sydney.

I would like to try it so would be interested in keeping abreast of your exploration.

I live in Glasgow and the nearest dark sky site is 2 hours away so not really practical.

I looked at a telescope a while back but I was getting into stupid money and also too big to transport territory so lost interest.

Nice shots! Tell us some details.. settings, post processing technique?

Very nice. I'd love to be able to get out and do some myself but, like Kenoh, I live in a really badly light polluted area so it's just not practical for me.

I have been trying to better understand how to do this kind of photography...
Have a reasonable fast wide angle lens with the least amount of coma, I use a Zeiss Distagon 2.8/21mm.
Have a sturdy tripod, use Manual focus only (very important) and use bulb mode with a good timer remote shutter control.
Basic starting settings:
400%F.L(divide 400 by the focal length)=slowest shutter speed (to avoid star trailing)
for f/2.8 use 6,400 ISO (adjust ISO to stay below the max shutter speed avoiding star trailing)

This shot was taken not under ideal conditions, some hazy sky was present..

Dark skies are your best friend.
Welcome to the night world!
AS noted there's a thread I started with many photo examples and techniques discussed.
There is an on going thread here with many astro pictures.

I suggest before you rush out and get a telescope, you work on wide angle imaging using a tripod.
Learn from that, then see if you really want to jump into the rabbit hole of telescopes......

taken 2 years ago. I am heading on a 7 day backpacking trip to the Wind Rivers in WY next week, so i should have plenty of night shots since it is a new moon on 7/4!

These are really amazing shots. Thank you for sharing. :)
