Hey guys,

I apologize for opening yet another thread about Mac Pro 1,1 Graphics upgrades, but I want to know about specific stuff.

So, the Asus DirectCU HD6870 is probably the best version of said card. It's this card:

Reviewed here.

I want to know whether this card is going to work at all in OS X without flashing - and more importantly, if it'll work after flashing in OS X, the boot menu, and Windows as well. Is anyone aware of this card, and if so, what are your experiences?

I am aware of http://www.groths.org/ and all the drivers and flashing tools over there by now.

Thanks!

Why should this card be any different than other 6870 cards when it comes to behaviour/driver support under OS X? And what hardware (MP model) and software (OS X version) are you talking about?

As stated - Mac Pro 1,1 (Dual dual-core, 2.66 GHz at the moment). Lion 10.7.2.

As other threads have mentioned, the ROM can be quite different. There can be no chance to actually flash the thing if it doesn't work the way most HD6870's does. Even the revision could be an issue in this field.

Just to be clear, flashing will not give you a boot screen on a 1,1 Mac Pro. You'll need an EFI64 capable Mac Pro for that (3,1 or higher). So that's one thing less to worry about.

Otherwise it will work fine I guess, can't give you a definite answer on that.

Thanks. I decided to order the card I wanted (I can return it if it doesn't do things as well as I want it to).

We'll see.

What makes this the best 6870? I would think the best one for putting in a MP is one that many people have tested in a MP already. Also, I see it only has 1GB, so it's not even the best card looking at specifications.
