People like to compare the Mac Mini and EEE Box. But there is a huge difference, one runs on Atom and one runs on C2D.

Huge difference there!

The Atom is an in-order cpu which gives it a massive disadvantage, in many tasks a 900Mhz celeron m eee beats 1.6GHz Atoms.

Atom as a choice for anything that runs on a desk is interesting, the one thing Atom does give you is low, low power consumption and heat. These are primarily mobile computing considerations though.

I suppose that because of the low heat you would have a very quiet desktop, with the fans rarely having to come on.

I wasn't sure before I got mine, but the Atom is surprisingly usable for basic home / home office activities. I would probably trade my office computer for an Atom (although no one in this office, AFAIK, has a C2D on their desk).

Also, FWIW, the Atom 330 line is specifically designed for desktop use -- they're not mobile processors.
