ASUS PB287Q 4K Lag on New Mac Pro

I bought this display based on a couple of positive things I read on here and bought it primarily to hook up to my nMP but I seem to be getting some lag of sorts.

I'm using a Mini DisplayPort to Display Port to connect the monitor to the machine and I've got the DisplayPort Stream set to 1.2 but I still seem to be getting some noticeable lag. 1.2 is a definite improvement over 1.2, but something still feels off. Moving windows around feels slower and less responsive than it feels on my MacBook Air.

I'm running the Yosemite DP2, incase that has anything to do with it. Really strange, though.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Pushing 3840 x 2160 pixels is gonna be harder than pushing 1440 x 900 pixels, regardless of GPU. I have always found as resolution increases, OSX's lag and stuttery UI becomes more noticeable.

Do this for a test - switch your 4K display to a much LOWER resolution, like 1920 x 1080 or lower. Then see if there is any lag. That should help you rule out wether its OSX's UI, or the input lag of the display itself.

Pretty sure that you are experiencing input lag.

Short definition I found:

Display lag is a phenomenon associated with some types of liquid crystal displays (LCDs), and nearly all types of high-definition televisions (HDTVs). It refers to latency, or lag measured by the difference between the time there is a signal input, and the time it takes the input to display on the screen.

I returned a UP2414Q because of this. It it not a hardware defect, it's just a side effect of the processing done to the image by the LCD's hardware.

So, monitor get the signal, process it to "enhance" it or whatever, and then display it.

I wish there was a way to turn this processing, a lot of modern monitor and HDTV suffer from this nowadays.

That's crazy! I thought these 4K monitors would work out of the box. Not sure I'll be able to return this as I've taken it out the box, which is troubling.

Okay, so I've done some testing. It appears that this weird lag goes away when the Display is set to "Best for display" in System Preferences. The problem with this setting is all UI elements on the screen are tiny, and impossible for me to work with on a daily basis.

When set to 2560 x 1440 YouTube the mouse still feels slightly laggy and more noticeable is the playback of videos in YouTube. They stutter and artifacts appear when running at 2560 x 1440.

Is this a problem with the Mac or the Display? Will an Software Update down the line fix this problem or should I try and return the display (I'm not even sure they accept returns once you take it out of the box)? And finally, are there any solutions to working in a 4K environment without splashing out £3K on that Sharp Display they're selling on the Apple Store?

Are you getting a 60Hz refresh rate with 2560 x 1440 and 3840 x 2160?

If you're refresh rate is 30Hz then that might be why Youtube playback is stuttery.
