I have a mac classic and a powermac 7500 here at home, i am wondering if it's even worth getting a performa 630CD. i was thinking an LC475 but i would like cd capability. i have found a few cheap ones on ebay but i am looking for something a little more substantial than my classic but something not as powerful than the 7500.

Am i overthinking all of this or should i get one just because i can? i would like color on the 68k but at the same time i would like to play my black and white games too. sure i could go the emulation route but that wouldn't be true 68k performance. i can do the cpu swap to a true 040 with an aftermarket cache card but like i said, i'm at a crossroads.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a 630CD, and while it is not exactly the most glamorous of the 68k Macs, it's really solidly engineered, easy to work on, and one of my favorite vintage Macs.

Since they haven't been all that popular so far, prices are reasonably sensible and you get good performance and a fair bit of flexibility in terms of expansion for your money.

So personally, I wouldn't hesitate.
