So I have a single cpu board 2009 Mac Pro. I’ve flashed to 5,1. Installed a Xeon x5690, system had 16 gb of ram. Read 1066mhz. Before cpu upgrade. Stayed same after. Had 64 gb ram pc 10600 ecc ordered just swapped out. With three sticks reads 1066 instead of 1333. And I put forth in drops to 800. I’m assuming the speed drop from x5690 being triple thread fourth stick slows it down. I don’t know why ram not running at 1333 if I just have three or less sticks installed .

Different things are at play here.

First, 4Rx4 is not the correct rank configuration for Westmeres. When 4Rx4 DIMMs work, the frequency is always downgraded to 1066 or even 800MHz.

Second, changing memory configuration needs a deep NVRAM reset to force the re-cache of the SPD data inside the NVRAM.

How to do a deep NVRAM reset:
Install a wired keyboard that works for NVRAM resets, not all keyboards work, press CMD-Option-P-R and keep pressed until you hear the 5th chime - you need to reset the NVRAM at least four times consecutively.

Ok thank you. This clears up a lot. I have a wired apple keyboard so hope that will work for nvram reset. Ram runs at 1066 with 48gb. I got the 64 gb for cheap on eBay. Same with cpu. Just waiting for metal gpu to upgrade os and boot rom. I want to try booting off pcie nmve ssd.
