At Ease for OS X

Hello,

I am new to OS X, used Macs before and will switch back to the Mac in the coming weeks...

Does anyone know what application I could use to achieve the same result as At Ease, an Apple product that disappeared, but now under OS X.

The aim of At Ease is to give the user (for instance kids) access only to a very limited number of applications and that does not allow them to go to the finder and mess around with files..
The whole thing being password protected..

If you make a new account (system preferences -> accounts) you can choose Simple Finder or somthing like that. This is good for kids. And you can choose what rights the account (user) has. And in the finder you can manually password-secure files or folders with the permissions settings in the file info box.

I haven't got my system yet, have you used it with kids ?

At ease was really very very easy, meaning, you just click on one of the several icons (no menus, nothing) of the applications...

I wonder if simple finder is similar..

It's entirely possible to set up At Ease even more securely than At Ease was. You'll want to enable separate accounts, disable automatic login, so you'll have the list of users at the beginning. Set a password for yourself and leave the kid's account password blank, if you want. Set the kid's account to use Simple Finder, and customize access to individual applications and folders/drives. It's not quite as easy to configure as At Ease, but it's a great deal more powerful. If you'd like, once you get your system, email me and i'll walk you through the process.

They will have access to the Finder, but will be unable to modify (or even view, if you want) any files other than their own.

I'm preparing to do it for my mother, she needs full access when I finally upgrade her to Jaguar but my little brothers make a mess of things quickly. And they're getting better at computers by the minute, so security is important. I'm more than confident the system will be protected from them. And foolproof, as I'm only there to administrate the system a couple of times a year.
