AT&T/Best Buy Refurb iPhone's require new 2 year activation??

I am an idiot and upgraded my white iPhone 3G to iPhone OS 3.0 BETA.
I've tried countless different times to get my phone back to Normal iPone Firmware 2.2.1 and I cannot.

With that being said, I would like to purchase a new iPhone. My iPhone even before i screwed it up with 3.0 BETA has been really messed up, I cannot use EDGE network anywhere, and my service will drop periodically every 2 minutes.

I would like to buy a new iPhone. Could I just stroll up to the AT&T store and buy a refurb 8gb for $100 and use my SIM card? Will I have to resign a new 2 year?

They do require a new contract, yes.

When you get your new iPhone, if you send yours to me (I'll pay for the shipping), even if it's a brick, that'd be awesome.

Are you sure it's bricked, people have been able to go back to 2.2.1 on this forum.
