AT&T expanding global WiFi 25,000 more Hotspots...

They NEED to get WiFi coverage most everywhere. Since they can't get fast 3G coverage.
Just think...... if they could get a wireless router developed that could be placed everywhere they have a wifi repeater, have a strong enough transmitter/receiver, and get it to hand off between each unit seemlessly, they could get rid of their 3G headaches. Maybe THEN, we could have simple things like MMS.

My iPhone has not been able to connect to an at&t hotspot for a little over a month. I don't know what happened.
I haven't used it in awhile, but does it still requires that you have an att.net, sbcglobal.net or yahoo.com email address?
no with the 3.0 software it just connects to it. I was somewhere the other day and tried it. I just went to wireless in the settings and clicked on the att one and it just connected! did a speed test and got about 300k up and 25k down. not the fastest but it worked

And MMS is only an issue for the iPhone. Works fine on all other AT&T phones that have MMS capabilities.
I can't think of any reason why they haven't opened it up for the iPhone yet.
As is the popular rant, maybe they need less focus on WiFi and more focus on 3G. If you're on a US highway anywhere in this country, you should really get at least a bloody EDGE signal. I just traveled from Dothan, Ala., to Panama City, Fla., yesterday. There were a bunch of complete dead zones on the US highway between those two locations. Then I hit PCB and got a 3G signal.
It's just ridiculous to find some of the dead zones around the nation. Heck, I'm not even talking about 3G. Just having a phone signal should be on these major roadways EVERYWHERE. Surely forcing everybody to get data plans on all smart phones will give AT&T the money for this.

Because just like the data the iphone users will probably send way more media messages than the average cell user which they need to get the network ready for. If they let you use it early all you're going to do is complain about how slow it is and how unreliable it is. If they wait to get it to the point where it will work correctly you will complain it's taking too long. People are so quick to complain instead of looking at a situation rationally.

I have AT&T hotspot access through my DSL plan (since mid-summer) and T-Mobile through my phone plan... I actually haven't logged on to the AT&T side yet, but I'm always happy with increased availability.
