Quick question..

Bought an iPhone 4S from At&t, now if I want to use the phone while I'm overseas without using roaming (I would like to use a carrier at the country I'm travelling to instead) - will this work out??? Or do I need to unlock it?

Thanks for responding in advance, any answers will be appreciated :)

No, if its locked to AT&T it will not accept any other carriers sims.
The iphone 4S cannot be unlocked at the moment.

WOW!!!
I'm truly surprised.. So I guess when Apple.com says that the iPhone 4S is a "world phone" they're only referring to the unlocked one, which is what?? $599 at least? smh!!

Thanks a lot for the answers folks :)

No, Sprint for instance will unlock for international use of other sims, if you meet the qualifying criteria. I bought mine launch day, so it's unlocked for when I travel.

No, your phone is still a world phone.
You can leave your AT&T sim and it will work anywhere worldwide.
That's besides the point that you will pay an arm and a leg for roaming charges:D

Really?? Would you switch? ;) mine is a beautiful 32 GB white haha!!
But that's strange! Why would Sprint allow it and At&t block it?
At&t can lose customers this way. Because before you could use an iPhone that you bought from them when you go overseas and come back, throw in the At&t sim and bam, friends again!! Not any more I guess...

Tempting!! But no thanks! haha I'd rather get another unlocked one (black this time) than spend hundreds of those green smelly bills on roaming!!

Really - carriers sell us words in the air, that's literally speaking!!

at&t has been like this since the beginning. I thought everybody knew. They newer offer unlocks. Hopefully one day they will offer it for people out of contract at least. However for now phone is 100% at&t
