UPDATE: The Att rep was retarded. Apparently he added the 1500 text but didn't realize it was ten dollars more. He called me back personally today and said he's sorry but it does cost a fee. At least I got him to give me 10 dollars credit for the first month.

Here's the story:

My current plan is the 39.99 + iPHONE DATA (19.99) which brings me to the grand total of 60.00 a month. I get unlimited data + 200 texts just like everyone else. I noticed I hit 200 texts in a week. So I called At&t (dial 611) to add that feature we were given in itunes (1500 text messings for 10 dollars I think).

I told the representative I wanted to add that 1500 text msging feature to my phone. He put me on hold for a bit, came back and said he has a deal for me: 1500 text msging PLUS UNLIMITED data for 19.99. I asked him if I could overwrite my old data plan, and he said yes. So basically, I just got 1300 free txt msging because I'm still paying the same price.

I asked him to verify (as i recorded) my features. I asked him to verify that I basically have the SAME PLAN at the SAME PRICE with 1500 texts now instead of 200. He said yes.

That's it. Go forth and gather your 1200 texts.

right on!

I got unlimited ATT to ATT txt message for an extra $5/month. Not bad since I mostly only txt people on ATT anyways.

i would really like more free texts. i know too manu people who recently got unlimited texting plans, and it's putting a drain on my monthly plan. i tried to add more on the website, but i couldn't find it. i wonder if this will work for me.

Just call and find out. You never know. Ask for the 1500 text plan. See what they say.

It's basically free. It can't hurt you.

I dialed 611 and tired to speak with someone but it said their offices are closed. It is Sunday so I guess that makes sense. Did you call today or was this some other day?

nice find, dphamily! wonder if at&t is running some sort of promotion/goodwill program for new iphone users. i actually don't text that much, so i don't need such a robust plan, but i'm tempted to try to call them to get this deal as well as long as it's available...

I wonder if this only works if you have the 20/month iPhone data package instead of the 60 bucks all in one package. Because the two are different. The first one means you had AT&T before and added the iPhone then chose the better text message package at a later date. I will be switching to AT&T next month for the iPhone and text messages are somewhat a big deal to me so I'm wondering if I should get the 40/month plan with a free phone and then buy the iPhone and add the data and THEN ask for the upgraded data/txt package. Any thoughts?

Let us know if it's still free after you get your first bill ;)

??

Pardon my ignorance, but if you originally had 200 text messages and AT&T gave you 1,500 text messages, wouldn't that be 1,300 more? Am I missing something?

Luis

i tried calling just now to see if i could upgrade my 200 texts to the 1500 texts and leaving the price the same, but the lady i spoke to said there is no deal/promotion going on like that right now. anybody else try calling and having any luck?

I was thinking the same myself, must just be a simple mistake, although the mistake was repeated lots of times (at least 3).

That is a very good deal you got there.

I bet this is one of their media net plans, which should not be available for the iPhone. I will be interested to see what your next bill looks like. Does your visual voicemail still work?

I'd guess what they gave you was the Media Works plan that only includes 5 MB a month of data. Check your account online. If you have a Media Works plan than it only includes 5 MB. The Media Max plan is unlimited data.

Update: Sorry, I meant 1300. Whoops. And yes I'll keep you posted. Once I get my first bill I'm going to scan it for you guys to see. And to answer a previous post, My plan was a whole package at the time of purchase (i.e. I never had a cingular plan or phone and did NOT add a data to an existing voice).

i never text

I didn't either until I became great friends with a lady whose English was limited, so we'd text. I also like the idea of dogging my co-workers via text rather than telling my mom, "Call me later, I'm at work."

But my friend got married (= no more text messages from her), my mom will never text, and my friends are too CHEAP to text.
