Now that we know that AT&T stores will probably have around 80-100 IPHONES, give or take, and Apple stores will have ~1000 units, which is a better bet to go to: AT&T or Apple?

Now, before you answer, consider this. Apple stores will most definetly have a greater amount of customers than your normal AT&T stores for obvious reasons. But, then again, there is a larger inventory at Apple Stores, and you can buy two IPHONES at Apple, whereas, you can only buy one at AT&T. Assuming that you can go to either store within a ten mile radius at 12 noon tomorrow, which would you choose and why?

I'm going to the AT&T store in my city that no one else has mentioned they're going to. Plus it's 2 blocks from my house, so I can check to see if there's a line pretty often. (I don't work on Fridays)

I am getting 4 phones, and only have me and my daughter to stand in line, so I have to go to the Apple Store. Not ideal for me, as my Apple store is 60 minutes away, but I will be there.

I will not be shut out

Apple. First, because I want to buy two.

Second, because I think there is at least a chance that there will be clueless AT&T sales reps and maybe even more clueless customers asking all sorts of questions about "old" voice plans versus "new" voice plans. And other questions about the device itself that the reps will struggle to answer.

The Apple store that I go to, on the other hand, has always had very knowledgeable people working there. And I'm sure they will in a mode to get people in and out quickly. They'll probably be organized better, also, having better experience with other launches.

Apple (even though is's an hour away) because I need one for me & one for teh wife!

Keep in mind, those numbers are still rumor as there is no official announcements on it. Don't get a false sense of security that there are 1000 iPhones at Apple stores. I hope its true ... but, I won't believe until I see it.

As far as my plans ... I will be going to an AT&T store and my GF will be going to stand in line at the Apple store. Whoever has a better chance of getting it, thats where I am going. Only buying 1 for now.

Since I have not bought anything from an Apple store before, I would rather buy it there.

honestly apple. everyone is going to apple....and two of the stores in dallas are in malls. apple will be out way befor at&t. i doubt if they will even sell out at at&t

Your best bet of getting one Friday night *has* to be at an Apple store.

You know the Apples stores will have inventory of 1,000-3,000 for the weekend. The whole event marketing plan is centered around people being in line buying phones on the 6pm and 11pm news, so that other people go the mall on the weekend. Apples stores will also have the party atmosphere, TV crews, etc.

I bet most apple stores can move close to 1,000 phones Friday night and another 2,000 over the weekend. They will have many more salespeople with wireless POS machines, etc. I bought ipods at xmas via the wireless credit card machines and it was a 1 minute transaction.

I'm betting the ATT stores will be an unorganized mess. Even if they have more than the 100-200 phones being reported, they won't be able to process more than 200 sales. At best they will have 4 registers averaging 5 min per transaction. that's 200 phones max on Friday. Do you trust the ATT salespeople not to reserve phones for friends?

Informed speculation: It appears that there are about 1 million phones going into the the 1st week launch. 50% to apple stores. Then another 2M to follow in July.

Great post, I agree 100%. Add to the fact that Apple stores will be open 6 full hours after the release. If they would be sold out by 6:30 what would they do for the next 5 and half hours? Tomorrow will be the highest sales day for the iPhone and I can't see Apple letting customers, and their $500+, leave the store and risk never getting the sale.

Its amazing how much these numbers keep getting inflated. 1k - 3k for an Apple store !?!?! Come on, be serious.
