So I thought I was the account holder and everything on my line. And I'm not. :(. Can the main holder still switch an available upgrade to my iPhone so I can still upgrade at least? I know it's possible if you're the main one, but I don't know about for other lines. Is this still possible even if you're not the main #? Thanks.

Im sorry I dont think I understand, however if Im correct, I'd say its possible. If I understand correctly, I have 2 lines in my family plan. Mine and my girlfriends. My mother is the account holder, but I pay her for the bill. She had me registered as a secondary account holder, therefore I was able to use my girlfriend's phones upgrade to upgrade my line.

Ex.
Her number is number 2
mine is 1

I used her lines (2) upgrade to upgrade my phone, and keep my phone number. Since I am a secondary holder I can make these decisions. Now, we have another upgrade available because my lines upgrade came in August. Im saving it for next year.

Did I help?

The secondary holder can still switch the upgrades?

Yes they can. I am a secondary holder and I switched the upgrades and phone numbers. The primary must call AT&T and provide their information, then ask to have you added. They will ask for your social security number and address I believe.

EDIT: This policy may have changed since I did this, so you may be better off calling AT&T directly, FWIW.

There are two types of people who can access an account.

The account holder: Name appears on the bill, can add and cancel lines, upgrade lines, and make changes to the account.

Authorized User: Can upgrade lines, and make changes to the account.

Does this help?

Even though I'm not the authorized user, I can tell them to switch a line that's available to upgrade to my iPhone? I'm just asking because I plan on getting a 32GB 3GS in a month and if I can't I'll probably be purchasing a new touch.

Please read the above post. If you're not either of those - you can't do anything. Think about your question for a moment. If AT&T allowed just anyone to call in and make changes to an account, can you imagine what would happen? Seriously.

You don't have to be so rude. What I mean to say was ask the account holder to switch. Whatever, I'll just call and find out.

As far as I know, you can't trade upgrade eligibility between lines. You can, however, upgrade the eligible line to a 3GS and then swap sims so that you get the 3GS.

I ended up calling AT&T around lunch and I got the info. I posted here because I wanted to avoid that, but thanks. If you have 4 lines like I do and another one can upgrade, you can switch it to yours.

Yes, that is what I told you.
Glad to know you got it sorted out.
