So long story short.

I was on the phone with AT&T and they said I need to get a new sim card. Im running 3.0.1 JB and carrier 5.5. I lied on the phone to the rep saying I was on 3.1 with baseband 5.22 (thank god I remembered).

Does AT&T have to see my phone to replace the sim or could I just hide cydia and turn everything off or should I restore my phone back to 3.0.1 to be safe? Or...can AT&T even do anything if my phone isnt updated / running the baseband I told them im on?

Im planning on going either tomorrow or saturday...

On my case when I got my sim swapped, they just borrowed my iPhone, turned it off, searched for one of those paper clip thing to pull out the sim. Then they took out a new sim card, scanned it, placed it back to my iPhone and turned it back on then gave it back to me.

Unless you have some weird start ups (or lockscreen wallpaper) on your iPhone, then they will notice it is jailbroken but I don't know how they will react on that.

IMO, I'd play this safe. You never know when you're gonna get that jackass that for some reason feels he/she needs to protect AT&T from jailbreakers and makes a note on your account to reject exchanges due to a jailbroken phone. While it may not happen, there is the chance that it could happen. Always err on the side of caution.

I would be cautious and restore it just to be on the safe side. Like stated above, you never know what jackass is going to get a hair up their ass and go and check for jailbrokeness. Besides, it only takes a few minutes to rejailbreak and restore everything...

Yeah I could just restore, then restore from backup after being JBed.

I might do that to be safe...

I doubt they'd care, in fact I've seen several employees sporting Jailbroken iPhones themselves at the AT&T stores.

Why would they care?

I'm jailbroken and in the uK, but when I needed a new SIM (at the suggestion of O2 to improve my reception), they simply sent it to me in the post. As long as you're paying them for the service, why would they care?

why would it matter at att store? i would worry if you bring it into apple store. you're already paying for att service, i dont think they would care what you do to your phone.

I too had to replace the sim card on my Jailbroken phone.

I just walked in and told them I needed a new sim card. All the at&t guy needed to see was whether I was getting a signal or not, so he never got past my lockscreen.

When I go into the ATT store I show them my jailbreak. One of the guys was playing my NES emulator :) They all think its cool.

Now the apple store, thats a different story.

You have nothing to worry about at an att store.

It doesnt matter. Just because your paying for the service doesnt mean they cant screw you over. I've had several CMDA phones that I've flased to work on different carriers and I have had to call Teach Support because the service rep at the carrier store would not touch it (Verizon phone flashed for alltel, etc). They should be able to just give you your sim card, not manually do it for you.

Must be a nice store. Some vary... you must have had some employees that didnt care...

That's just it. You never know who you're going to deal with. Go into an AT&T store and try it with it jailbroken. If you get it, you get it. If not, go back and restore it and then try again.

i only said that because att store doesnt give you a replacement iphone if there is anything wrong with it. they dont deal with warranty on your iphones. if anything is wrong, they tell you to goto apple store. thats why they have applecare for a year. it is a different story for cdma phones (verizon, sprint, alltell, etc) because the carrier store will have to replace it.

iphone does not go through their warranty system. thats why att store wont care what you do to your phone.

The only problem is I think my phone problem is related to some JB file I have on my phone.

gotcha.. but they can still refuse you on service for using a JB'd iPhone because it "could potentially break their TOS agreement"... Thats why I love T-Mobile :D They dont care. Period.

Where i go, i talk to them about jailbreaking. ****, i even talked one rep (A very cute female) into jailbreaking her iPhone. lol.

How do you find out if you need a new O2 sim?

I had the exact issue

Tried it jb no problems at AT&T she even said the phone looked cool. Honestly just sawping a sims I don't think there will be a issues.

Im going to AT&T very soon and im just gonna leave cydia installed and not restore. Cydias on the front page, sbsettings is installed, 4 JBed apps on the top row of second page so well see how this goes.

No problems. The rep even opened kirikae on accident and my stomach dropped but she was clueless. Sweet :D.

If I remember correctly, the last time I went into an AT&T store, they just gave me the new SIM card. Didn't even touch my phone.

Then again, my area seems to be different for many stores (Best Buy actually having people come up to me so much that I get sick of saying "no, I'm just looking." Apple Store employees not caring about jailbreaking/unlocking, etc.)
