The more i think about it, the more i realize i'll probably be camping out for the iPhone from about 11pm-midnight on Thursday. I have an AT&T store and Apple store about the same distance from me. The Apple store is in a mall, however, and they probably don't take kindly to campers.

Where do you think is a better place to pick up the iPhone on its release date?

This has been covered in other threads already but most people seem to think that the AT&T store will be easier. Heck, supposedly Steve Jobs told Arianna Huffington that the AT&T store would be easier.

"Don't go to an Apple store," Jobs told me. "It will be a madhouse there. People will be lined up around the block, sleeping on the sidewalk to get one. Go to an AT&T/Cingular store. Most people don't know that they will be selling them too."

That said, I work about a mile from a suburban Chicago Apple Store and may swing by there when they open that Friday. If not I'll hit the Michigan Ave. store over the weekend.

uhh yeah, but she also is from california so i think it i to be expected that the apple stores there will be a little nutso compared to most other locations.

I'm gonna go to the AT&T store as it is closer and I really can't see too many people camping out in my area. Of those people who are camping out, I'm sure most will go the Apple Store. If they get just 20/store, I'm sure I can get one on launch. Anyway, this is my 1000th post! :D

Apple Store

Is it just me or am I the only one planning on buying the phone through the Apple Store online?

Everyone's freaking out about thinking they won't be able to get one but if you order it and wait 3 days, it's yours.

Am I wrong?

Every Apple store opening has always been jam packed - even the small stores in Iowa, Minnesota, etc. I realize that this is merely a product unveiling but I imagine that the die hard Apple lovers out there will be coming out of the woodwork for this one. That whole weekend is going to be crazy.

So far Apple has said that they will be available at only brick & mortar stores. I can't believe that to be true but you never know.

When did they say that? I've never seen a statement from Apple saying that the phones will only be available from brick & mortar. Damn. Has anyone else heard this?

I'm too busy to track it down right now, might have even been brought up in the keynote but they said it would be available at Apple Stores and AT&T stores - no mention of Apple's online store. I can't imagine that they wouldn't sell it there though. Maybe initially it will only be the B&M stores - more hype, TV news showing long lines, etc.

The iPhone will be available at the online Apple Store, as well.

From the store itself:
iPhone, the revolutionary combination of a mobile phone, widescreen iPod, and Internet communications device, is coming to the online Apple Store and retail Apple Stores on
June 29, 2007, with AT&T as the exclusive U.S. carrier partner.

(Emphasis mine.)

AT&T Store

AT&T store for me. I would buy online, but you have to sign for it (which I think is a good thing for an expensive product) but I can't be home to sign for it.

I stopped by the local AT&T store and the rep there told me since I will be adding the two years to my current contract ( only 3 months left) I'm better off at an ATT store. If its a new activation the :apple: store should have no problems.

Of course he could just be trying to make sure they get the sale over the :apple: store
