My family is interested in getting a Wi-Fi + 3G iPad. Under a family plan, we already have an iPhone 3GS (with a data plan) and 3 Samsung phones (without data). We were already interested in getting unlimited data for the family because their phones require it for MMS. If we did end up getting unlimited data for the family plan, could we add the iPad to the plan (since the microsim cards technically have numbers)?

It may just be speculation, but I am pretty sure the answer to your question is no. Anyways even if you could add it to your plan its going to cost at least $30 a month (probably more haven't checked att's rates recently), so why bother?

Family plan or not, iPhone data is $30 per phone. The family plan only allows you to share voice, not data. You can get unlimited SMS/MMS for $30 on the family plan, but that is different from Internet data. Unlimited data for the iPad is $30 for the months you use it and cannot be shared w/ another device.

yepp, he is right. I searched all over for this and called them. Data does not come in a family plan they just change $30 for each phone that you want.

The unlimited data family plan add on is a few weeks new, AT&T announced it when they announced the new $69.99 price point for unlimited talk...

At least that's what I found on the internet. Could be wrong though.

I just added my son to our AT&T family plan. it is still $30/month per iPhone. The iPhone data plan is different then the standard data plan. My son doesn't have an iPhone and only pays $10/month for unlimited data.

AT&T's family or stand alone plans have nothing to do with the plans for your iPad. It is a prepaid service being bulk sold for use on Apple iPad.
