At which position do your prefer Fingerprintscanners?

With the announcement of the Galaxy S8, LG G 6, some Huawei phones fingerprintscanners have moved around a lot lately. So I thought it would be interesting to find out where your favorite locations are.

For me it's simple and basic at the front one of the major downsides of my phone is having the FSP on the back, so when my phone is laying on the table I have to turn it upside down jusat to quickly unlock it and I hardly use the "unlock it while it's in the pocket" feature.

btw. Iriscanners and other stuff aren't FSP so they aren't part of this poll.

Front for sure, preferably underneath the OLED panel, but hasn't been done mainstream, so a front facing one like the HTC U11's or OnePlus' works better for me. I wouldn't mind a LG V30's because I had Nexus imprint on my old 5X.

The back doesn't help as much, so I agree with sitting at a desk or table. I do not like how the FP sensor is the power button on the LG V30 or LG G6 because it makes me fearful of the button being hit more often and stop working as good over time.

To be frank, it's really convenient having the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. I didn't realize this fully until I purchased a phone that had the fingerprint scanner on the back. Your index finger is naturally close to the scanner anyway when you're holding your phone, so it takes minimal effort to move it to the sensor.

I see people (ahem, iPhone-only users) say that it's dumb having the sensor on the back, and that it belongs on the front. But I think they say that without having tried it the other way.

However, I will say that the fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone is convenient IF it also serves as the home button, a la the iPhone. At that point, you're probably putting your finger on the home button anyway to unlock the phone. This gets increasingly more difficult, however, with the larger Plus models. It will often times take some effort/shifting to get your thumb to the home button while using the device one-handed.

I have no preference eithier way, but I'm looking forward to a front sensor within the display.

I went for 'Other' and that's because the side of the device is where it works best IMO.

^^ This is valid also, put it on the power button on the side. However, we here in the US are getting these same phones but with that fingerprint scanner disabled for some reason.

I prefer the FPS on the front and round to be honest. But i don't the FPS on the back as long as it is centered and round like the Pixel phones.

I actually do prefer first, that my device has one () and second, that it’s on the front. I do like how I can use a gesture to pull down the notification shade on the Pixel but I find I use my device a lot either on the table/deck or in a dock (i.e. my car) and having the sensor in the back is just inconvenient in these cases

Would love to see it under the display on the front one day. That's probably the most ideal. Second place: center-back, like the Pixels. A surprisingly amazing FPS location.

Yeah, front is preferred but lower center back is good too. Power button I wouldn't mind either.

It would be reachable even if the phone was resting face up on a table and you didn't want to pick it up, and it'd allow for an all-screen front (with no unsightly unibrow) at the same time. Maybe it's not technically possible yet but I'm sure it'd be easier than having it in the display.

I wouldn't say it's dumb having it on the back. In the GS8's case, it makes sense to put it there. There's no room for it on the front. But I prefer it on the front. If/when they can put it under the screen, that will be the best place for it, IMO.

For now, I'll take it the way the GS8 gives it to me. I can't have both small bezels and front fingerprint scanner yet, so I choose smaller bezels.

I believe I read that Samsung is working on this solution. Knowing Samsung, you can bet that they are trying to make an under-the-screen fingerprint scanner a reality as soon as they can. It'd certainly shake things up if they managed to get it working in time for the Galaxy S9, however it is more likely to manifest itself in the Note 9, if at all.

The question is... is Apple still pursuing an under-the-display solution? Judging by the rumors, it didn't make it to the iPhone X simply because it wasn't ready yet. Apple typically doesn't walk back major decisions like this so if I had to bet, I would bet we all say goodbye to Touch ID for all future flagships. But who knows! It's clear Apple isn't going to hold to every single one of their old traditions anymore.

I think when Apple finally can add a fingerprint reader under the display, they'll do it and just give it a new/upgraded name.

I'm betting "Super Touch ID".

I actually really like it on the back. I do feel however LG, Pixel phones, etc. that use the round centered scanner to be a better solution then how Samsung implemented it. With that said, with a case the sensor on the back of my S8+ is pretty easy to find and seems more natural as time goes on. I honestly think the only reason it is where it is on the S8s and Note 8 was a last minute change. They had extra room by the camera to make a quick change. Lower and centered gets into battery space. I assume they really wanted an under the screen solution and this was the back up plan.
