Atari Centipiede released !

I have been waiting for this one for a long time.

At $4.99 it's a bit steep, but it is completely accurate with the old centipede and a lot of fun if you grew up on the original version.

Not only does it have the original version, called Classic, but there are also two other version, Arcade and Ultra. Both of these offer new twists on the original theme and are equally as fun.

Very polished, nicely done and solid app. Well worth the $4.99. Great job, Atari.

Come on Williams how about releasing Arcade Classics bundle for the iphone.

I bought Centipede. Loved this game as a kid, and spent many quarters in the arcades on this. It's really fun on the iPhone. I wasn't sure how it would be without the trackball, but it's great. I like the updated version, but the classic mode brings back so many memories, and the sound effects rule.

I also agree, Defender would OWN.

I bought this game and it plays great. I've been waiting for since the app store came out.
I really like Ambrosia's take on Centipede with Aperion. I wish that would be available next in the app store!!

Of course I am totally serious, no joke. I have never been more sure of anything in my life. Defender, Robotron, Stargate and Joust (all Williams early games) are like The Seargent Pepper, The Abbey Road of video games.

They don't have the fancy graphics and you could fit them on several K (yes K) but they have soul.

I would suggest you haven't played Defender or Robotron but that's your loss.

I can't get that worked up and these things shouldn't be taken THAT seriously, but no I totally meant what I said. If I amuse you then I'm glad Iv'e cheered up your day.

Many many people also think Robotron is the greatest video game ever produced-I would love it brought up to date (a la Ultra Centipede on iphone) but the essence of the game must stay the same.

And to the subject of the thread. I did get centipede and am not dissapointed. They have done a great job with centipede. I love the Ultra versions and the classic version is exactly as it should be. It shows that the classics can translate and paly well on the iphone. A stayer on my iphone.
