Apple introduced some excellent serif fonts, including the very complete and wonderful Athelas. However since public beta 1 I've had problems where although the font file is installed by the installer (check modified date), Font Book fails to show it and in early betas no app could use it. Now in PB5 I can use it in some apps like Scrivener, but it still fails to show in Font Book (All Fonts section), LibreOffice, TextEdit (unless you have a preexisting document with Athelas or Athelas somehow in recent fonts section).

Screenshot shows 15A262e with missing Athelas in Font Book but recently installed Athelas.ttc in /Library/Fonts/

Could other users please check if they can see Athelas in their Font Book "All Fonts" list?

Apple may have done this intentionally, to prevent people from using the typefaces outside of Apple’s own apps.

Hm, this is indeed a possibility although the other iBook fonts are still available in 10.11, and Athelas was available since its introduction in late 2011 till El Capitan as far as I remember. I'd be surprised Apple would let a licensing violation go on for so long...

I have the exact same issue!

I use the font "Athelas" in scrivener for writing, so i noticed very lately that it is missing in fontbook.app or even for other programs too. I can't tell when this issue appeared, maybe the upgrade from 10.10 to 10.11? I don't know.
So, i still can use the font in scrivener as the last used font, but if i would change the standard font, i can't switch back because "Athelas" is not in the font list anymore!

BUT HERE IT COMES:

The font is already on "SYSTEM DRIVE"/Library/Fonts/Athelas.ttc and not visible in fontbook.app.
BUT, if you leave open fontbook.app and rename the font "Athelas.ttc" in Finder to something like "AthelasNew.ttc" it instantly pop up in font book.app!!! And also in scrivener i can see it in the normal font list!!!!
Rename it back to "Athelas.ttc" it disappears mysteriously!!!!!

So something in OS X must hide it if it is under the name "Athelas.ttc"
Maybe this works with other font's too!
