ATI 5770 and Lion - any issues on a 2008 Mac Pro?

Okay, I'm finally ready to upgrade to Lion. The major bugs appear to have been resolved with the latest update (10.7.3?), but I just have one concern:

I've upgraded my 3,1 Mac Pro (early 2008 model) with an Apple compatible ATI 5770 graphic card, which works fine in SL 10.6.8, but has anyone experienced any issues with this card in Lion? I ask because even though the card was purchased from the Apple Store, it's not officially supported for this model, IIRC.

I assume Lion includes the proper drivers for this card, but that's just an assumption, so if anyone is using the 5770 on this particular computer and also running Lion, I'd like to know before I leap on the Lion's back.

After my original 8800GT died last summer I've also replaced it by the ATI 5770 on my Mac Pro Early 2008 (Quadcore Version).

No problems whatsoever under Lion even though it's not officially supported.

Really? It works on Lion? Like you, I have the Apple 5770 & 2008 3,1 Mac Pro - I assumed that a slightly later version, than the "required" version on the 5770 box, would be just fine. I was apparently wrong. I just put 10.6.3, then 10.6.8 and my 5770 is still causing major lag that renders OSX un-usable. I had to boot back over to my 500GB Seagate, that has 10.5.8 on it still. The 5770 is supposed to be compatible with 10.6.5, but I am experiencing the exact opposite, assuming they kept the same drivers from .5, to .8?! I am in need of serious help here.

Yes it's working fine over here and also did on SL.

After checking my order confirmation mails:
I've installed the card in July 2011 and I also didn't have the problem you describe on the latest SL at that time (can't remember which version it was, but was always up to date).
Lion was installed about 3 weeks after I've swapped the cards.

I installed Lion last night (after first SuperDupering SL to a secondary drive, just in case) and I've been running it all morning without any serious issues.

No problem with the 5770 at all. Mine was installed last July under Snow Leopard and the only problem I had at that time was some sort of weird conflict with another PCIe card (a firewire, usb card). After removing that card, there were no problems at all.

The hardest part about Lion for me seems to be figuring out the best way to use Mission Control as the new Spaces. I wish there were a way to quickly see which desktop I'm viewing - perhaps a number in the menu bar or something. That and mouse scrolling is the opposite of Snow Leopard - wtf?

On Mission Control, I agree. I never really used Spaces much (don't have often have to, as I have two monitors), but I did use Expose quite a bit and doing that in Mission Control is awkward.

Regarding the mouse scroll, you can actually toggle the reverse scrolling off in System Preferences (under Mouse, I think). To me, the "Lion" scrolling only makes sense on trackpads.

Yeah, I found that setting after a little exploring and switched it off. Even though I'm using a trackpad, it still seems strange to me. I guess I'm used to thinking of the browser as a window on the document, and moving the window down rather than moving the document up is what I've grown accustomed to, if that makes sense.

I am glad Apple included the option to turn that off.
