There has popped several articles about GTX 480 because it's now allowed to post them. nVidia was so sure that GTX 480 will run circles around every ATI GPU, but what happened? See it from here!

Is it *that* big of a difference? I mean, the top-end Nvidia card will still run demanding games very well at high settings, no?

Then again, I'm not really a specs guy, so . . . as long as I got decent framerates in EVE Online at high settings it was all the same to me.

But don't ATI and Nvidia trade places? For a few months it's ATI on top, then it's Nvidia on top, then ATI maybe, etc. Or has Nvidia really fallen behind?

Dude in the specs comparing crowd, and extra 2FPS is a worlds difference.

We're starting to get to the point where normal consumers only really need a midrange card. (5570-5670ish) I can easily see Apple's future with ATi if this is what nVidia is coming up with.

Define "normal consumers". I'm pretty sure that the amount of PC gaming marketshare is only a measly 6% against consoles. So PC gaming itself is turning into quite a niche thing. I'd be willing to bet that most consumers can get by with integrated graphics.

If you mean the Intel GMA graphics, I disagree.

If, on the other hand, you mean the nVidia 9400m, then I agree.

Now, what's this about ATI pwning nVidia again?

(I kid, I kid, I'm not that obtuse like many MacRumorites those days)

Months has turned into years. All this goes back to 2006 and 2007.

$100-150 is boring nowadays but it's enough. Thank ATI for the HD 3800 and nVidia for the G92.

Basically what Apple targets.

They could get by quite fine but it doesnt mean its very comfortable. Casual gaming is still very big on computers. (Things like The Sims, RTS games etc)

Agreed. The vast majority of people would be comfortable on an 5670 as you said earlier, but the $300 premium that Apple charges to move up to the dedicated graphics card iMac is just too high to be mainstream right now. Sure, advanced users will happily snap it up, and high-end users have $2000+ to spend, but the 9400M GT (which is over 1 and a half years old now) is still enough power at the moment.

Right and this comes from what playing crysis?

2 FPS means absolutely nothing. the difference between say 28 and 30 frame rates is nothing. Considering cards FPS move all over the board as a FPS plays.

Couldn't agree more. My boys have been very happy with their HD2600 iMacs for over 2 years now. If the next GPU is 56xx based, I would not be too disappointed.

Odds are it'll be a 5850 Mobile in the top-SKU iMac. TDP is ~50-55W, which is an improvement over 4850 available now (58W TDP).
