Duff-Man says...please tell us what you are planning to use the computer for - what programs you want to run, high-end games? etc etc....it is hard to recommend anything without knowing what you are planning to do with it....oh yeah!

Duff-Man says....yup...if you want the best Doom experience (and other high end games that may follow) and have the extra $$ to spend then get the 9800 Pro...if it was just the other stuff you mentioned then the 9600 would have done just fine....oh yeah!

Where do you get your powermac? Apple no longer sells new dual 1.8 G5's and also the radeon 9600XT and 9800Pro are no longer sold as upgradable parts.

Apple does still sell new Dual 1.8GHz Power Macs and the 9600XT and 9800Pro are readily available on eBay as well as the 9800XT which would be my recommendation.

Edit: Well, I just looked and now the Dual 1.8GHz Power Macs are sold out on Apple's sales page along with the Dual 2.0GHz

Working for MI-6
Choose the 9800 Pro, it is the better choice. The card that I have in my PowerMac, the 9600, is being replaced with either the 9800 Pro or the X800XT whenever my new Mac arrives.

Pro or XT

Does anyone have a clear view of the difference between 9800 Pro and 9800XT, i thought ATI only made one card for mac (one 9600, 9800, X800)?

Any thoughts about this?
